Announcement   Announcement : There is always something better... AmijeweledV1.3!
   posted by Insane-Software on 12-Jan-2008 23:14:32 (3253 reads)
We are very proud to announce the release of a new version of AmijeweledRTG, Amijeweled V1.3!

In this version, some wishes of our customers were implemented, e.g. the long awaited fullscreen mode.

Additionally, we finally found the bug that made the startup of Amijeweled with OS4 a little bit nasty sometimes. Other features are a requester for error message handling and the ability to play sound simultaneously with other AHI programs.

Our customers already received the update via email as usual. Customers of
Alinea Computer who bought a CD version there may contact us to receive their update via email, too. Our contact details can be found on our website.

For the Amigans who don´t know Amijeweled or were not fully satisfied with the V1.2 demo version, we provide a V1.3 demo version for download. Try it!

Our development will concentrate on future projects now, mainly the AGA version, which we will develop to bring this nice game to our "roots", too.

Special thanks go to Herbert Klackl who supported us in the development the new version of Amijeweled and tested it thouroughly with MorphOS.

We wish you much fun with the new version of Amijeweled and like to thank all our customers for the praises and the faith they gave to us.

With kind regards

Niels Schapke & Wolfgang Hosemann

This is really a quality program, I just wish you made 5 or 10 games of same quality.

Thumbs up..

@Moderators: Thank you very much for editing the link

@RWO & NutsAboutAmiga:

Thank you very much for the praise! We gave our best to find the last glitches and fix them. We hope that you will enjoy Amijeweled very much on the machine of your like, it should run very well on any AmigaOS like flavour except AROS (because this one still lacks a 68k emulation). RWO, we hope you enjoy it now playing in fullscreen mode This one was asked such often that we had to implement it.

@Toaks: Have a look at your email account

DiscreetFX: Thank you very much! We in turn are eagerly waiting for a good AmigaOS render package and wish you much success with Aladdin!

Edit: We had some bouncing mails right now, the recipients are:

Nouvel Hugues
Boulahia Mehdi
Mattin Robert

If they read here: Please contact us to tell us your new email address, so that we can send you your updates. They are yours!

With best regards

@HammerD:

Could you send us a crash log? (please use email for this, because the GrimReaper crash logs are awfully long )

Which version of OS4 are you using on which machine?

We tested it with a µA1 and an Amiga 4000, both with the latest official version of OS4, and it runs very well.

Edit: Well... you are right! What a mess... a wrong version of the demo got up to our server! Please try again on Sunday afternoon, then the right version without this crash should be available. We beg your pardon! You can ignore this crash and play, nonetheless.

The full versions don't contain this glitch.

With best regards

hello,

It's Mrodfr with the crash, when using the new game button, on his amiga ( we discuss and not found the problem during V1.2 version last year).

I have the same crash with the full screen version V1.3. (Use the new game button and the log was aved and freeze). The only thing changed is the rtg.library patched to last version with the patch put on aminet last december.

yes, I know, I allways try to help...

@modfr:

Well, it's a pity... I (Wolfgang) would really like to know what exactly the problem with your Mediator system is

I remember your problem very well, but I don't know how to solve it, because I do nothing very special to draw the graphics of Amijeweled. Only OS functions are used for every aspect of the game, hence it should work with your system, too.

Have you tried to choose another colour depth for fullscreen? If not, please try it. Maybe, there is a very small driver error regarding the endianess of the screen modes (I read something about a messed up Spider USB transfer because of different endianesses), maybe it helps.

Also, try to switch off sound.

If the error is not solved with this, we have to investigate further.

With best regards

@Insane-Software

Much thanks for the update, it's working VERY well here.

I have a couple of observations though;

In Timetrial mode there is a very easy cheat - simply press & hold right mouse button! Is it possible to eliminate this?

Also, the default tool for the Amijeweled.Readme file is set to sys:Tools/EditPad. Of course the Tools directory no longer exists in OS4 for some time.

At last... Well, it is indeed quite simple to change this behaviour, as much as simple as the cheat itself. It lasted 9 months now, until somebody discovered it, simple as it was

Please drop us an email if you want to have a version without this cheat (and everybody else wanting a cheat-free version, too).

Yes, that's right... we did it this way because it is not that easy (without growing archive size) to distinguish between the different OS versions, hence we decided to use the path used in (most likely) most Amiga-like systems out there.

Well, we have the impression that there is some more interest in an OS4 native version of Amijeweled. Before we make one, we need to know how much interest there is exactly. If you want to see such a version, please send us an email expressing your interest!

With kind regards

If the error is not solved with this, we have to investigate further.

v1.2 runs great in OS4/EUAE in AmiKit setup, but 1.3 won't even startup?
It goes through the 'loading prompt' and then goes off into infinity...

@snuffy:

This one is even more strange... as V1.2 and V1.3 doesn't differ in many aspects, when coming to this phase of the startup? Only the ahi.device initialization has changed a little bit to use the UNIT Tooltype, but that shouldn't freeze. If there is a problem using AHI, the error requester should appear.

It seems that this part is causing your problem, BUT we use EasyRequest() OS function for it and this one caused absolutely no problem so far (indeed, it shouldn't cause any problem!)

You can try to disable sound output for AmijeweledV1.3. If AmijeweledV1.3 doesn't freeze then, you may have a problem caused e.g. by a system patch, patching the EasyRequest() function of AmigaOS. But first, try to choose another AHI unit for AmijeweledV1.3. If it still freezes, try it with sound disabled.

If it doesn't freeze using another AHI unit, you may have a problem with your AHI prefs. Please check this first.

With kind regards
