Hardware News   Hardware News : Palm announces new handhelds
posted by Kay on 23-Apr-2003 8:15:47 (2298 reads)
Today, Palm announced two new handhelds: The Tungsten C and the Zire 71. The new Tungsten is aimed at power users, boasting a 400MHz XScale processor and 64 MB of memory, while the new Zire is a multimedia oriented 144MHz unit aimed at consumers. Perhaps one of these could be the ideal companion for your Amiga desktop?

For details on each unit check out the following links:

I see the Zire 71 is expected to be available in Norway by tomorrow. Now all I need is a review to confirm that there are no major design flaws, and I'm off to buy one.

Palm now has enough power & features to support the DE and AROS!

Lets hope that it happens (DE), I know that there already is a early version of AROS for Palm.

If it came with DE installed ... I'd buy one

Does DE actually ship on any hardware?

(I don't keep up with DE news that much)

Yes, Amiga Inc now has no excuse for not porting DE to Palm.

Except that I don't think Amiga can even spell "Port" much less do it. That would have to be done by TAO!

@Loki

if intent already runs on XScale (which it should if AmigaDE runs on MicroSoft's OS for Mobiles etc.)

then AmigaDE should already run PalmOS.
the only thing TAO needs to 'port' is the HAL for the XScale processor (and whatever the Zeire is using) and this is already done... it never was intended that Amiga Inc. should do ANY low-level stuff for intent... read up on AmigaDE/Intent before making stupid remarks.

This is good news.

Because:
1) Palm PDAs have the best SW suite for Amigans
(palm is the only sensible buy for AmigaOS user)
2) Now those PDAs have enough resources to run AmigaDE comfortably
