News   News : Has Amiga Inc changed CEO?
   posted by DaveyD on 27-Apr-2003 12:58:47 (36769 reads)
Given the rumours, we asked fleecy the following...

"Has Amiga Inc changed CEO?"

Fleecy: As of this moment Bill McEwen is the CEO of Amiga and if a new CEO was to be brought in, it would be because of Amiga expanding as a company and Bill needing to concentrate on being Chairman and President - currently he is CEO as well and three top jobs in a company that is attracting the attention we are is at least one job too many.

Any CEO to be brought in would be as part of the team and would be totally in sync with the current strategic direction of the company.

If someone is posting information to the contrary then it can only be for ulterior motives.

@Hooligan who said :
"On the other hand, if its true that this Garry Hare-person has given a card in march which states him being the CEO, makes me wonder why didn't we know it From Amiga Inc. a month ago?"

Well, our company appointed a "temporary"(not sure about the proper word, here) CEO while looking for a replacement of the former. 2 months later, he accepted and then it was announced that he would be the new CEO.

This is usually the case if you have a CEO coming from a completely different trade(ie, a CEO from a non-computer related type of work, going to a consultant+hw type of work), and he wants to have a feel for it first, or see if it is interesting.

Here is an interesting Quote of BB:

"Will "Amiga" be a big
market for us? We do not think so. First, because we are not an official Amiga
piece of hardware, and secondly because we are using MorphOS. The two just
don't go together."

@Kay

"At any rate, you must agree that if a new Amiga CEO is to be appointed, it really isn't Bill Buck's place to inform the public. "

That is a very good point. If Amiga Inc has a new CEO, is this the way that it would be announced?

Seems like I am on target.. but anyway, here we go :

@Herewegoagain

I by no means took it as hostility, just wanted to remind that there are majority of Pegasos owning people thinking with their own head and doesn't swallow everything that is fed to them.

@Reflect
If it has been said publicly somewhere, I have missed it and I apologise. I only have checked Amiga Inc. website (and even that very rarely) as there was talk "if it doesn't come from the source, it's not true".

@Messiah
I was just playing with words, you surely noticed that
I can say my three week MorphOS experience has been mostly positive, wish a few things would be added soon, and some bugs removed ASAP. But it changed my experience in Operating Systems as I don't use PC much anymore, and my Amiga is stuffed in to closet.
How has your Linux experience changed from, lets say, x86 Linux using AmigaOne?
Get my point? Linux is linux, no matter if it's run on ppc or x86. MorphOS is something new that only a few have been able to get hands on.

But don't get me wrong. My fingers are itching to get hold of OS4, been Amiga fanatic in most extreme sense for over a decade now.

Assuming it's not faked in some way (now THAT's
paranoia), where does that put us? Some guy named Garry
Hare (held in hight regard by Amiga apparently) being CEO
of AInc and being so discreet about it fleecy doesn't even
know? As I said yesterday, I found no logical reason for Bill
Buck to lie about this as it was so easily refutable (and
such a silly thing to lie about). Having received this card (if
that was indeed what happened), it's would natural for him
to assume there is indeed a new CEO. So the question is
now: what the heck is going on? A misunderstanding
being blown out of proportion? Let's hope so.

(Then, the reason Mr.Buck had to go on and in the same
breath start talking about they "getting rid of McEwen" and
of "buying out classic AmigaOS" is another topic of
conversation in itself...)

Maybe he saw an opportunity to drive his own agendas, who can blame him. I think I would do the same if my money, my company was involved.

I posted about a certain business-related comment at ann.lu, being only one example of many I have experienced. Sometimes it feels like being a puppet, company headmen running everything relying you to do your job. And naturally when something goes wrong the sh1t will drain down on you.
I see Buck as those kind of people, being in charge of company I am working for. They'd do anything to reach certain agendas, even if it involves sacrificing people. Two weeks after I was promoted I realised how businesses are run. I could go on forever about the matter. The sad fact is that some people are hired to do something, some people are in head of something, some people are hired to make sure things happen in ways its best to the company. All of these are doing their jobs and very often the roads gets crossed.

Hooligan : nah, I wasn't targetting you at all. Just tried to give a plausible explanation to why it hasn't been announced yet ; simply cause he hasn't accepted the job just yet. :)

Actually there was a change in direction. Terry will be both CEO, Chairman and Information Minister all at once... At least that's what his business card tells me.

I also overheard some smaller changes (pretty insignificant I guess), the Pegasos2 is being cancelled and will be replaced with an ATX form factor Smartboy print.

@ Hooligan

What do you mean, this has been 100% confirmed already by Terry himself! Wait.... wait..... gonna give him a call and come back to you with an exact quote....
