Software News   Software News : OpenSSH 5.0p1 for Amiga OS
   posted by ssolie on 10-Apr-2008 21:39:44 (2819 reads)
I have updated my OpenSSH port to the latest 5.0 baseline which can be downloaded directly from OS4Depot.

There were no enhancement to the Amiga OS port itself this time. You can find the list of changes compared to the old 4.7p1 baseline here, here and here if interested.

With the latest downloadable version of open-ssh from the OS4depot, i was not able to use "scp". "ssh" workes fine but as soon as i try to copy files from or to a remote location with scp, i get an error message. Something with "can't allocate memory" .. :(

System: AOS4 classic with x-surf

greetings,
nexus

P.S. I tried then pftp, wich showed me the content of the remote directory. But i neither could drag files from there to my local directory nor vice versa. Perhaps here the installation of pftp was the problem as i have not installed this toolbar-image-library-thingy (with aos4 the installer scripts didnt work here as everything comes without icons and no tooltypes are set. "Installer" of AOS4 refuses to execute the scripts in this archive).

@nexus
That is because of a bug in queue-handler. Use the previous version of queue-handler and it should work fine.

queue-handler? where can i get the "right" version? Does this bug cause that scp problem? or the pftp-copy-problem? or the installation problems of this image-toolbar-library?

greetings,
nexus

This should work regardless of the queue-handler version, no need to downgrade anything.

Did you drag with the middle mousebutton? Or try using the arrow?

Any chance to get the OS4 diffs submitted back to the main project at some point?

Buttons I dont see (probably because of the missing Image-Toolbar-lib (It is called AISS or so, right?) as the installation script doesnt work (you cannot start it at all).

BUT middle mouse buttons work indeed :) It seems that i missed this little detail in the docu :)
Sorry :) So pftp works now fine with sftp.

The question is, why can pftp copy files via sftp but i cannot copy with scp by hand? pftp uses the openssh tools, right?

Thanks,
nexus.

@nexus

Because pftp uses the sftp command from openssh and not scp? SCP (Secure Copy) is a different protocol from SFTP (Secure FTP).

The installation script is for AmiUpdate to use.

Anyway, you can grab AISS here:

@salass00

Actually, PFTP impliments SFTP itself, it only uses SSH for the secure connection, the same as the sftp command does. But yes, it uses a different protocol to scp.

(sorry for late response)

@xeron

This is exactly the archive I downloaded and tried to install (and there was no error message during decompressing the archive with AOS4 tool: unarc). The installation script doesnt work with my AOS4 classic installation. Neither there are any icons despite the "AISS4.pdf"-Icon which i could click on to start the installation (there are only project-files with the a name .info, e.g. "install.info". The icon information window shows that "multiview" is set to the default-program-field)) nor does it work to execute the the "install"-script with "sys:Utilities/installer install" (error message: "cannot compile script. Error: Symbol name not valid here in line 1").

Can me point someone a link to a page which describes that queue-handler problem? I'd really like to use scp. Pftp is great, but if i only want copy one file scp is faster and can be used in selfwritten scripts.

Thank you,
nexus.

Download and install this in order to see the icons:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=library/misc/png_im.lha

IIRC the AISS install script is a DOS script and not an Installer script so you should run it with C:Execute instead.

The problem is that you don't have the png iconmodule installed. If you download it from here, and copy "png.iconmodule" to libs:iconmodules/ and reboot, you should see the install icon and be able to click on it.

As for the queue-handler problem, there is a problem where the current publically available queue-handler causes 100% cpu usage when used in a certain way that is required by PFTP. It doesn't stop PFTP working with OpenSSH, it just uses more CPU time than it should. There is nothing you can do to fix it since the fixed queue-handler is only available to OS4 betatesters at this time.

If Steven was referring to a problem with scp and queue-handler rather than PFTP, then i don't know what that problem is, but likely that can't be fixed either for the same reason.
