A very good and informative Q&A.
Some of the Questions are obvious, but they provide a good source of information for those new to the Amiga scene.

I was quite surprised by the detail that was given by the answers, even cleared up a few things I was wondering about, but had not been asked.

The last paragraph makes me think of Star Trek.

All the systems on the Enterprise it self run using Amiga OS. Everything else like the little computer tablets they use,the Tri-quarters (sp? some trekkie can correct me :) ), the communicators, and things like that use AmigaDE. :)

Sounds cool to me.

Despite the rumour mongering, this would have to be one of the most upbeat Q&As.

By Jove hes got it!

Seriously though, thats exactly what it IS. thats what we have been working towards for years. When Jim Collas descirbed AmigaObjects and the seemless networking, which essentially is what the DE is an upgrade of, LCARS was the first thing that came to mind.

(LCARS is the GUI on the Enterprise - Library Computer Access and Retrevial System) What LCARS was, actually, was a distributed network where any network compliant device automatically networked with the system, and allowed code form one system to work on another, write once, run anywhere... sound familiar?)

If you want to try LCARS on your Amiga go to:
Infinite Frontiers Amiga Downloads
Issues 7 - 10 of The FInal Frontier diskzine were produced using a manu system based on LCARS. They should work on any Amiga but are Amiga chipset reliant and will not output via a graphics card

All we need to do now is get Paramount to put a boing ball on the computer core on the E in the next movie... (which would start to make up for the marketing cock-up Commodore made by not allowing an A1000 to appear in Star Trek IV The Voyage Home - a Mac was used instead.)

The quality of the questions asked is all down to those we receive from all you visitors/members out there. If you keep on asking them, we can keep selecting them .

I would like to ask one thing though, if you do have questions to ask for Fleecy, can you please keep them in the Ask Fleecy sections, as I have noticed a lot of new threads starting which are just questions to ask Fleecy. It is a lot easier for us to get your questions sent over if we know where to actually look for them in the first place

Over time, the idea of a multi product matrix will become a very powerful driver for the AmigaDE. A digital home with a mix of devices that ranges from PDAs, Tablets, TVs, Consoles, Laptops, Smartphones, DVD players and even washing machines, air conditioning and automobiles will benefit immensely from something like the AmigaDE, which attempts to create a single, contiguous solution above the various devi

Are these the same ideas Amiga Inc. announced at World of Amiga in London in 1998?

Don't get me wrong! This is not a criticism, if Fleecy is talking about what I hope he is talking about!

You see, I would love to be able to sit on the sofa in the living room (or outside on the deck) with my "instant-on" tablet style device ... and use it to surf the net, read email, lookup photos in my photo collection, control the television, select and listen to my favourite music, run my favourite Amiga applications, and run my favourite "MS" applications.

Since I like to use a keyboard and mouse for editting, word processing, spreadsheet, etc, I would also like to be able to carry the same tablet style device over to the kitchen table, hook up a fullsize keyboard and mouse and use these input devices with Final Writer, "Excel", etc.

Of course, I am assuming that I would be accessing an "Amiga" server and a "MS Office" server that are parked somewhere in the house.

ahh ...

And yes .... I used the dreaded "MS" in my last post.

You see ... in real life I use a PC with Microsoft Office 2000 at work and my son uses the same environment at school. We also have a PC at home which runs Microsoft ME and Office 2000 as well as QNX.

And I also continue to use our venerable old Amiga 2000HD.

Just wanted to say that Fleecy has always seemed like a true Amigan to me. I hope Amiga Inc. goes far and he ends up doing really well in his life.
