Software News   Software News : AmiKit 1.5.2 and new engine add-on
   posted by AmiKit on 22-Nov-2008 13:43:22 (4543 reads)
AmiKit, the free software package that turns your Windows or Linux system into the high-end Amiga environment, has been updated.

Highlight: The v1.5.2 version contains the new and yet publically unreleased AfA_OS 4.3 (AROS for Amiga) system which enriches the AmiKit OS3.x environment with up-to-date AROS features. The update is delivered to you automatically thanks to AmiKit's integrated Live Update feature. Here's what's new.

The AmiKit emulation engine (WinUAE) has also been updated. There's a new Add-On which, when installed, updates the emulation engine of your AmiKit automatically.

For more information and free download please visit Official AmiKit website. Donations are welcome.

Gr8 update... Thanks.

1) In Windows VISTA 64bit my mouse keeps on showing a pink background with it also, some small bug I would imagine. I don't get this in WB3.1

2) Could you please release an Amiga OS4.x and MorphOS & AROS versions of these AmiKit packages so that we users can enjoy rich and pre-assembled desktops

3) OWB 68K pre-installed on AmiKit.

I had the same problem on my 32bit Vista laptop, this is what AmiKit told me, I had to fall back to WinUAE 1.4.6 to fix the problem.

"The pink rectangle pointer issue is the problem of intel gfx driver. Please update your graphics drivers."

"Alternative solution is to downgrade to older WinUAE 1.4.6. Download the ZIP archive and copy the WinUAE.exe into your AmiKit\WinUAE\ folder."

Good stuff - great work Jan!

I shall look forward to seeing what has been updated in AfA_OS.

Toni Wilen has just informed me that there is more elegant solution than downgrading. It should be enough to add -ddsoftwarecolorkey switch to WinUAE's command line. To use the switch automatically with each start of AmiKit, simply edit the AmiKit.ini file located in the root of your AmiKit installation folder and insert the switch into the first line, before the -f switch. So the edited line will look like this:

RunAmiKit = -ddsoftwarecolorkey -f "../WinUAE/Configurations/AmiKit_v1.UAE" -s use_gui=no

From now on whenever you start AmiKit by its AmiKit.exe launcher and press the "Run AmiKit" button, the switch will be applied.

I'm new to Ubuntu Linux and can't get the AmiKit CD to install using the script. Is someone up to writing a new script that works with this popular distribution?

I can' t wait to get it going on this machine!

@AmiKit

Do you know if there is a way to run MCP and ClicktoFront at the same time?

Please specify the problem at AmiKit forum or try to install it manually according to these instructions.

Hmmm, seems ClickToFront really doesn't work together with MCP. Anyway, you can substitute the ClickToFront by MCP easily. More info here.

Tried it out tonight and love it! Nice job and thank you for all the work.
I was impressed to see PortablE installed. Thank you for including it.

Ah, good idea. Even set up a double click window to back. Very nice.

I know you can use FreeWheel (which is already in WBStartup) too and turn the option for DoubleClick, but it has a VERY nasty bug. If you right click and have a Magic Menu up and at the same time press the left button on a Window Title bar the whole OS instantly freezes. Now, kinda hard to do normally, but if you are wizzing through menus it happens and CRASH!! Or the more likely scenario is if you set Magic Menu to "Sticky Mouse Button" which is what I prefer, then I get a lot of crashes when I hit the Window Title bar on accident.

So thanks for the MCP tip!!
