Announcement   Announcement : Watch Amiga Roundtable #43 LIVE!
posted by MobbyG on 18-Oct-2009 2:42:57 (3656 reads)
Yes, you read the title right! You can WATCH us record Amiga Roundtable live. This is a beta thing, so by no means does this mean it's going to be 100%

Also some people will be excluded from watching as this is being sent via flash since we have no way in place to rebroadcast it via Shoutcast. But the video will be available later in Quicktime as well as uploaded to Youtube and Ustream. If anyone is willing to convert it to another format, let me know and I will happily get you a copy as soon as the show is done so you can re-encode it. Audio will also be made available soon after.

If all goes well, we'll be talking to AmigaDave at AmiWest 2009 in Sacramento about the goings on there as also the Hyperion/Amiga settlement that was just announced. There is a chat room on UStream that you can join if you want to get into chat.

Where can you watch? Here:
Ustream

When? We'll start video at 9:30am EST (1400 GMT), and the show itself sometime after 10am.

Thanks to everyone in advance that will show up!

@all

Instructions for reaching the chat channel if not using the applet:

Server: c.ustream.tv
Channel: #amiga-roundtable

If you get the message upon log in reading:
Quote:
This is a registered nick, either choose another nick or enter the password by doing: /PASS

Just enter: /nick [nick]

If this fails and reproduces the same message, just repeat the above with a new nick until it accepts it. I had to try 4 times.

Video will take an hour. It's encoding now.
Audio will be started after I go to the bathroom real quick. LOL

Some minor hiccups:

The audio track for the video didn't come out in the recording. Not a big deal. I just synced up the separate audio recording with the video and it's fine.

Also, YouTube will only take 10 min videos. So I'm going to see how we can get it out quicker. Maybe re-encode in a smaller size and post it on our website.

Other than that, the guys and I think it was a great show. When will we do video again? Not sure. Working out the audio issue above. But I could foresee it being a regualr thing starting after the holidays. Unless you guys would rather just have audio.

Thanks for the recording - I liked it. perfect.

What hardware was needed for the show ?

I think all shows should have this setup it was perfect. I dunno what the live feed quality was like, but the recording was great.

If we had this setup at amiwest, for all rooms we could have great quality shows.

Can you imagine Amiga programming videos, large archives of knowledge for the masses.

Keep up these shows, keeps Amiga knowledge flowing and its FUN.

Thanks so much !

Future shows:

Amiga twitter app developers, presentation
AmiDARK Engine developer, presentation
Natami presentation
Minimig developers

1 iMac (2.4GHz/2GB Ram) - Video effects, switching, video recording and streaming.
1 Macbook Pro (2.1GHz/1GB Ram) - Skype and final audio editing and mixing.
1 PC w/ WinXP (1.2GHz/1GB Ram) - Audio recording, and music automation system.

We used a combo of BoinxTV, CamTwist and iMovie on the iMac.
On the PC it was SAM Broadcaster 4 and Adobe Audition v1.5.

I thought about doing something like this when it was mentioned in another thread. If I had a professional cam and more room, I could do something like that. But I don't have the free time required to film, edit and polish them... or the camera.

As for the Amiga Twitter client, If I knew C+, I would do it myself. It's just a simple HTTP_POST sent to twitter, and then parsing the returned data for display and such. I would love to have a shell version for the Amiga-Z BBS.

You could try posting it on Viddler or Vimeo, both of which are actually better than Youtube and don't have the dumb 10 minute limit for uploads.

@danwood

I'm using an Audio Technica ST-95 MK2 mic into an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixer. I just tweaked the settings for the mic so that is sounds nice and full. But i may need to add a compressor or do some more post work in the future because I can hear hiss between the output from the PC into the mixer.

@MobbyG

That is a lot of good hardware !

I hope one day Amiga would be able to do all that, it would be agreat selling point for Amiga, a portable broadcast system

I dont think we have a skype app for Amiga yet.

Thanks for the info. Any ETA for the next broadcast ?

cheers

@Rich, Sean, Eddie, BillP., and Mike

I understand you asked for email about future direction, but perhaps it's better just to post here, so ideas can be bounced off others.

Congratulations on the broadcast. Very enjoyable as always.

First thought that comes to mind here is the difference between TV (passive) and computer (interactive). While the shows have been entertaining, the initial attempt at involving the community through the dedicated irc channel is a plus.
I think if this channel becomes a permanent fixture with each show, it would grow, if you keep the show "live". "Live" also means more timely with the news.
I think your explanation about editing time makes it clear that expanding your concept to "live" means you need to keep this less time consuming on your end.
Announcing that the show is "PG" rated or whatever to keep it "live" and fast with news delivery is fine in my book.
I'll be happy to discuss fuller irc implementation and how to keep the user input coherent in context with your show, if you so decide.

I've also noticed since the show's inception, that sometimes you waiver in format between segments vs free for all. At the very least, I think adhering to segments that are consistent from show to show is a good idea. News - Interview - Q/A (referring to irc above) could be 3 consistent elements.
