Announcement   Announcement : UAE-OSX Ultimate Bounty
   posted by DiscreetFX on 12-Nov-2009 1:16:16 (7325 reads)
Chicago, Illinois November 09th, 2009

For Immediate Release

Amiga Seeding the Success Campaign from DiscreetFX

This months Seeding the Success Campaign is going to be a little different. The winner will be a Mac OS X coder/coders that brings out a better version of UAE for Mac OS X. We like to call this version UAE-OSX Ultimate. Toni has done a fantastic job of upgrading the Windows version of UAE. Sadly he has no interest in a MacOS X port and the old maintainer of that port stopped updating it a few years ago.

Sure Mac OS X users can run Boot Camp, Fusion or Parallels and use WinUAE or Amiga Forever 2009 but that's not as fun as a OS X native version of UAE.

In an age when Windows is going out of fashion, DiscreetFX has always strongly believed in a OS X version based on the current sources of WinUAE. More ways to run AmigaOS will benefit users and developers. DiscreetFX believes in doing what it can to help make modern Amiga & Amiga like systems successful. Donate to the bounty via the link below if you want a better UAE for Mac OS X.

UAE-OSX Ultimate

Best regards

- DiscreetFX Team

With things like puae going on I doubt much will be done with this (or perhaps puae will turn into it?):

If you follow that entire thread history into November, you'll get an idea of what's going on.

@DiscretFX

Strange that you post here news related to MacOS port .. And strange that is not somethink like "Ultimate UAE fixed for the os4" or kind :)

Who cares about a Mac port - except for Mac User - who I suppose can be found elsewhere...

Give us our daily DiscreetFX announcement, Amen.

Here's still waiting for a DFX announcement that really bears something substantial for the Amiga community. But I don't have that much hope. What might be next? He tried to sell us Acer notebooks (the Amiga relevance being that you can run WinUAE on them), promotes Mac OS all the time (same relevance as Acer notebook), tries to sell music CDs (Amiga relevance being that you can use them in VideoToaster presentation), sells 12 year old 68k soft without clearly revealing that it's a very old version, etc. Well, amigaworld.net should probably be renamed www.discreetfx-news-hq.net ...

Suggestion to moderation: Back in the days of ann.lu there was a rule that commercial companies could only submit "news" (= ads) once per month. Maybe this should apply here too.

From one side i like the DiscretFX man, but from other i totally agree with Qwertz. These posts about nothink with these words "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE", "Amiga Seeding the Success Campaign from DiscreetFX", like it's somethink really important, but all that news mean nothink in end. If you have somethink new released for os3/os4/mos/aros - then just release it. And that will be "for immediate release".

And i not say that personally i am, jsut did't understand for what need post news related to macos here. But moders are have their opinions imho.

@DiscreetFX
Can you please somethink _realy_ importnat (if that happenes), but not that stuff ? You post in some thread, like NEW APP OUT ! blabla, but that is nothink for any amiga like, it was for macos and windows. If you make that politic only for money and better sales, then i totally agree - there is must be like ann.lu do before.

i dunno what your thinking but this mac osx port is a wasted effort, its all about the puae over at the mac camp these days. you DiscretFX should put all your effort into the aos4 version.

@qwertz

So far I've only seem you post 6 times. All to give DiscreetFX "grief" in his news threads. You can't even be bothered to think of a nick name, just chossing the first 6 letters on a german keyboard....

Anyway, If you belive UAE (whichever flavour) is amiga related as many do then why does it matter less on a Mac that on a Windioze box?

And so why are updates to WinUAE consider worthy? If Windoze user can be found "elsewhere"?

I have here e-uae + Hi-Toro on my mac.

What is the difference between e-uae and winuae?

Would it not be better to develop e-uae, that way you could use it for OS4.1 also.

Edit: or is e-uae for ppc-mac and winuae for intel-mac?

@bitman

I suspect the average Mac User dosen't even know what UAE is, let alone care.

Well, it is a $1010 bounty. If I had a job now, I'd probably contribute.

I was confused by that one. You had to buy the Andriod/XP version because they want Google's Andriod base to expand but then the tie-in to relating it to Amiga was to promote the usage on WinUAE. I guess their idea was you use WinUAE for all that you can and then use Andriod for everything else. But in the end its actually selling more Windows licenses as well. So I really did not get that one either.

When was this? This is not ringing a bell.

Which program is this? Aladdin 4D?

Sorry if our Press Releases are coming out too fast and furious. It was not planned that way but deals we have had cooking all year suddenly wrapped up at the same time. We do advertise on aw.net on a regular bases too. It's clear that we have annoyed a vocal minority when they join the site just to complain about us. Not going to mention any names "qwertz".

:)

If you don't want Press Releases about new products you can buy what would you like instead?

FYI

DiscreetFX is not a "He" it's a group of people.

I think you might be surprised

Amiga Emulation on Mac

I use E-UAE + Amiga OS 3.9 on my Intel Mac + OS X Snow Leopard.

@fairlanefastback

That's an odd statement to make. I am a Mac user and also a Commodore fan. I used to make a site called Think Commodore which was all about Commodore emulation on Macs. There are lots of Mac users that care about Commodore emulation.
