Software News   Software News : ffmpegGUI v2.2 Released - make videos from picture & audio
   posted by ktadd on 16-Nov-2009 5:05:47 (3612 reads)
ffmpegGUI v2.2 - a GUI front end for the OS4 compile of the ffmpeg program. Get it at OS4Depot!

Version 2.2 now allows additional options to be specified before and after input and output files. This makes almost all capabilities of ffmpeg accessable from the GUI. Also included is a new quick setup which takes advantage of this new feature to allow creating a video from a single picture with audio. Additional settings choices have been added and some usability improvement were made.

See below for a full list of changes.

Version 2.2 (Release Version)
Added ability to specify additional options before/after input and output files.
(Almost everything from the command line should be doable from the GUI.)
Modified "Additional options" string gadgets to no longer require a return for entry.
Added ability to type paths/filenames directly into File I/O string gadgets.
Added menu item to output ffmpeg command in console for cut and paste.
Added quick setup selection for converting a picture plus audio to an mp4 video.
Added a quick setup file for creating an mp4 video of still picture with audio.
(It's in the "Video" directory.)
Added .mkv (video) and .mka (audio) file formats.
Added 667k video bitrate and 20fps frame rate for support of Sansa Fuze.
Added video Size of 224 x 176 for support of Sansa Fuze.
Fixed bug were invalid lines or empty lines in settings file causes a crash.
Fixed bug in run_cmd function which could cause crash in rare cases.
Quick setups no longer have hidden commands.
Moved PSP and iPod setup files into a new "Devices" directory in Settings directory.

@ktadd

Thanks.

I've had lockups doing big conversions. Could be ffmpeg or just my micro acting up. Seems to happen near the end of a conversion. Takes a long time to convert 500MB or larger videos, so just wondering if its possible to have ffmpeggui resume a conversion. Might even be possible to start a second convertion & then splice then together, not sure that can be done with videos.

Is there a "Video editing on AOS4" tutorial somewhere?
(and/or video DVD handling tutorial)

@sundown

I suspect it's your micro acting up. Mine acts up when dealing large files if I have DMA enabled. You could try disabling DMA and see what happens.

If your dealing with mpeg files I believe you can use Deniil's execellent join/split program found here.
Another alternative which should work, if the originals are not in mpeg format, is to convert them to mpeg format in two passes. For the first pass, set the "Duration" to a value half way through the video. Then change the output file name and set the the "Start offset" value to the one used for Duration in the first pass and set the "Duration" value back to zero. Then just join the two resulting files. Of course you can break them up into smaller pieces using the "Start Offset" and "Duration" settings as well and then just join them all together at the end. The join/split approach will only work for mpeg formats. If you want use other formats for the output video, like, avi, I beleive mencoder can join those.

Another possibility, but probably not likely to help is to try setting the STACK tooltype to something greater than the 500000 value that ffmpegGUI defalts to.

Hope this helps.

@kimmok

The video editing tools on OS4 are pretty limited currently. If you start a thread in the forums and let us know specifically what you would like to do I'll see if I can give you some pointers or point you to somewhere that you can find more information.

>The video editing tools on OS4 are pretty limited currently.

thats on all AOS systems same.We should think about to port some good software or maybe somebody write a easy to use program that use ffmpeg.

when i cut Videos, i use virtual dup maybe the features can add in a Video player.
I can scroll thru video and i can set with a key a start and end marker.Now i can press del key and the scene between start and end marker i dont want is remove.

virtual dub have also features that can press next scene button so i need not exact scroll to scene bounds. when i press necrt scene the movie is analize and play as fast as it can and, when the next scene is detect it stop.then can add set a start or end of cut position
This features are simple but, i like this more as this slow and big thousands of win/Linux Videoediting tools.

I cut lots videos and i use always virtual dub for it.

maybe somebody can do a easy to use editing software.

@bernd_afa

Sorry, at this point I don't plan to do a 68k version of ffmpegGUI. I don't have anything against other OS's but this is just a hobby for me and I don't want to get into supporting a bunch of different versions. A different version of ffmpeg is available for each system. They are all compiled with different libraries included and some commands even change with different versions. It would be more than I have time for to try and support all the systems. I'd rather not release the source code either because it has a fair bit of experimental stuff in it and I wouldn't feel right about releasing it without giving it proper support. Again, I'm sorry and I have nothing against other systems, I just don't want to open up that can of worms. I just write the things that I have a use for and share them with other OS4 users in case they might find it useful as well.

In regards to Virtual Dub, I took a quick look at it and it looks useful. Currently ffmpegGUI can do most all the things it can do with the exception of the filters and rotating. It is possible to do some filtering with ffmpeg but we currrently don't have the supporting libraries to support it. I might look at that as some point, especially rotating as a first step. No promises on anything though. Like I said, it's just a hobby in my spare time. There are other people in my life that come first.

Edit: Forgot to add. That's why I release everything for free and don't ask for donations. It is what it is and I make no promises of anything more. It's just for fun.

FFplay exist only for AOS3 (AFAIR).

FFPLAY is planned to be one day ported to AOS4.x by someone ????

Hum, EDIT: sorry FFPLAY included on FFmpeg AOS4 archive (but slow on the readme).
