OMG! IcAROS looks awesome. You guys have really been optimising the themes.
It looks a little too much like Win7 though, which.... I don't like that much.
I think this has sent me past the tipping point. AROS looks like it well and truly has arrived.

Hmmmm.... do I now delete my Xp or my Vista hard drive?
Can I boot from an SD card and avoid this issue all together? I would love to move from PC to PC with Aros on my SD card. That would be too awesome. Oh, and if that SD card would also boot AROS from VMWare on Windows machines with or without installation I think I would pass out.

You now have all the power of x86, a great looking window manager/workbench, and decent compatibility with 68k..... Remind me why we're hanging out for OS4 and SAM again?

With the advancement of IcAROS and its new found compatibility with legacy software, does this displace AmiKit somewhat?
Or..... would I care enough to run AmiKit on top of IcAROS now.
Will all those fantastic apps on AmiKit now be available on IcAROS?

Does it work on Acer Aspire One or DELLs mini 10?

Thanks

@BigBentheAussie

Hi, thanks for your warm feedback. I'm happy you appreciated the latest Icaros improvements. However we still have to wait a little for installing it on SD cards and other USB devices, but AROS developers are already working on this issue, and I am quite optimistic in future we will be able to do that. About AmiKit, I once tried integrating it into Icaros, since it should be easily feasible, but without success. Maybe some day I will try again, but I hope someone will help me about this. I've already seen AmigaSYS integrated in Icaros on a blog (try googling it), so it should be feasible for Amikit too.

It works without sound and wi-fi on my Aspire One. Everything else is supported or at least correctly recognized.

I tried it on my Acer Aspire One and it worked fine (no wireless and no sound like you said) but the previous version on a Dell mini 10 wouldn't install.

I'll try again with v1.2

OK, now we are on serious talk because it seems that UAE integration is not too far away. That will boost AROS supported software instantly. IMHO, it will also need a browser like OWB with its latest releases. If AROS becomes the UAE next big thing (in terms of active users) while offering lots more than an emulation, then it has the potential to grow rapidly. BTW, I really like the new themes but someone has to redraw that bock/bar in the bottom of screen. It looks ugly, especially in the corners.

Well done Paolone

Not meaning to start a flame, but is there any particular reason why AROS won't boot/run on FAT32 formatted SD card? Why does it need its own file system? If it used FAT32 then it could be accessed by other OSes, which are more than likely going to be in use on the same machine, for file interchange.

I'm not enough pro in filesystems to answer, but I think that FAT support should be included into the kernel to do so, and I don't know if FAT32 meets all the specific needs that AmigaOS and AROS expect from a filesystem. It probably does, but anyway the kernel must be able to support it at boot in order to install AROS on any FAT (not only USB devices) partition. Once again, I warmly ask people being able to help to... help the project! AROS code is available under the terms of a open source license, and you can do what you want with it if you're able to, even running it from USB pendrives or FAT partitions. Cheers,

p.bes

@Cool_amigaN :

We already have "OWB with its latest releases". Maybe our GUI can be enhanced a little, anyway the one in Icaros 1.2 is far better than the older releases. Now menus and download manager are fine, and OWB starts & render pages much faster than before.

For the look of AmiStart, I can evaluate and eventually accept any suggestion from users. But this suggestion must come in a .zip file providing the whole, modified AmiStart drawer, with every necessary image file inside.

Will AROS run on an Intel Mac Mini (Core Duo processor, GMA 950 graphics)?

@Paolone

It doesn't want to install on mini Dell 10!

It says: "can't start installation, exiting now"

Which should I select for this netbook?

The imica one?

Accidenti voglio proprio provarlo su questo netbook!

@RedMelons

It should do. I've got a board with the GMA950 graphics chip, and it runs OK in VESA mode. It's a bit sluggish, but it certainly works.
