As late a today I noticed corruption of an USB stick I have used in my A1-XE. Windows refused to read it. Had to run chkdsk /F on it which fixed a number of cross-linked files and corrupted long-name directory entries. Is it really that hard to manage FAT32..?!?
|
Might be unrelated to your problem, but I have read about some USB massstorage devices not being 100% compliant to the USB specifications, but they are anyway released to sales since they work ok under Windows, and companies aren't bothered to check if they work with other OSes as well...

Yes, I got this. I checked the installer code (install.py), and it is entirely harmless: It wanted to replace Workbench title bar saying "Update 1" with "Update 2" (and same for how Kickstart identifies itself to the user), but didn't for safety. This is entirely cosmetic, and does not affect OS4 at all.
@Develin Not sure there are any trolls, except possibly BillE's poor temper.Last edited by ChrisH on 30-Apr-2010 at 06:10 PM.

When you start sending file, do you help browser with proper HTTP headers? You could send something like this:
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="OS4.1.2.iso"' # that will tell browser to not try display item inline Content-Length: NUMBER_OF_BYTES # this header would let browser to know how big the file is, it helps to determine if EOF was approached. |
I just checked again, and it already sends these, so the browser should know the filesize - it has to if it is to display a progress bar. |

| great news once again.
btw, both sam and peg2 .lha files are the same size and have the same files in, a1 included, so we doesn't hyperion release only one update2.lha for all? (just asking) |

It's the same file all over, I just put it up three times in the different directories to avoid any sort of questions regarding whether this file is for Sam440, AmigaOne or Pegasos II; if it's in the appropriate directory, the question will not come up |

| IBrowse is pathetic nowdays... stop complaining about OWB |
I beg to differ. Ibrowse is the most informative browser there is. A pity the original developer seems to be preventing the rest of the IB team updatng it
When you start a download from OWB you get no download indicator whatsoever, the *only* way to tell if anything is going on is to watch the lights on the router hardly user friendly, OWB does not tell you how far the download has progressed nor how long to go, both are very important issues if you have a slow connection, you need to know these things, OWB unfortunately tells you nothing !
When OWB has a fraction of the user friendliness and advanced GUI of IB then it may be worth using. I know I have to occasionally use OWB for sites that are unaware of other platforms than the PC but for an Amiga site I expect better support for Amiga browsers.
In fact even on non Amiga sites IB usually downloads files perfectly it is ONLY this ONE case on an AMIGA site where junk is added to the download. It happens nowhere else where you download the file stated and not that file with extra junk appended. Why did the garbage get appended and why after the copmplaints from the first update was the error still there. It happens nowhere else even on PC centric sites. |

Why not try NetSurf? It works, and has a download indicator. |

| I do have sympathy for BillE's problem, even if not his language... |
OK I ignored the previous post about bad language but the use of the word idiot is hardly bad language. If this word has suddenly become a swear word I was unaware of it and we are really living in a sad nanny state!
I did NOT use any bad language, admittedly I over reacted and could have expressed my annoyance better but I did not swear at anyone. However, I did think that after the last update this issue of added junk would have been addressed, it happens nowhere else when downloading files.
Also for those with fast internet connections it may not matter so much but if you are limited by your telecoms company to slow downloads it is really annoying to have spent a long time downloading a file that does not work as it should.
There was nothing personal but the idiotic way the site handled the downloads was the problem, and after the last update it should have been fixed before rather than later. |

Thanks for the tip, I will download the latest version and try it.
I did try NetSurf a while ago and it kept crashing, but that was some time ago so no doubt the current version will be a lot better.
I still wish the IB team would bring IB upto to date then we did not have to rely on these ports so much. |

| Indeed I use the latest Netsurf rather often - except for Javascript sites, this is for OWB. I more or less forgot about IBrowse, if i fire up one of the "old" browsers, I use AWebPPC. |

:)) That is normal for every day usage ?:) Imho very-very-pretty-not. I do the same, but that suck of course. Very interesting to try TimberWolf at last..
Must to say, that i try to download that update 10-20 times. On Pc, over firefox, opera, explorer. It just refused connenction from hyperion site on 40, on 50, or on 60%. I just trying after few hours, and again the same. I trying GetRight, but, Hyperion site does not support resuming.
And after all that crap, i happyly download by some luck that update. I just not write here before, because just do not want annoy Rogue and broke fan of others. But, 100% downloading procedure on hyperion site suck. And dunnno why there all these problems , which in general, as BillE say, never happenes everythere in the net. |
