Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Icaros Desktop on a pendrive how-to
posted by paolone on 12-Jun-2010 22:38:53 (2966 reads)
A new document has been published on the Icaros Website. It explains how to create a bootable AROS pendrive using the recently released Icaros Desktop 1.2.2 update disc. The resulting pendrive can be used both to boot the system (on motherboards which allow booting from this kind of devices), and to install Icaros on the hard drive (like live CD/DVDs). It may be good to use or install the distribution on laptops without a optical drive, like netbooks and many "light" notebooks, or to allow booting AROS on systems with unsupported devices or controllers. Instructions are available in PDF format, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat or a compatible reader to view them, like for instance ArosPDF.

What a coincidence I was just trying to find out how to do that last night. I'll check it out.

Unfortunately I have given up trying to install this on a ASUS 1001PX netbook. It fails to allow me to select the HD to install to. I endedup setting it up with Manually with HDToolbox and still no joy I may try again next release :(

What is the controller used for the hard drive? Remember you just have to free some space on the drive and let InstallAROS do the rest. Alternatively, you can just use a good USB pendrive as AROS disc. It should be good enough and let you modify and save files as you wish.
