| @paolone I have to admit that does look pretty cool, so it will be fun to try it out in the next Icaros Desktop (under emulation in my case).
Now for a bit of moaning (sorry in advance) : The AROS window theme used looks FAR too much like AmigaOS4's standard theme, and I think it is a real shame that someone feels they have to make AROS look like OS4, rather than making AROS distinctively recognisable as AROS. (While I may not personally like MOS's standard theme so much, I will at least know when I am looking at MOS, and not mistake it for (say) OS4 or AROS.) _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. | Hi Chris, thank you for your encouragement. Icaros Desktop's primary goal is to make Amiga users feel comfortably at home, even if they are running a PC operating system on commodity hardware. So the default theme is clearly inspired to AmigaOS 3.1 (and not 4.x), with similar colors and gadget disposition, although brought to a more modern global look.
A far more AmigaOS4-ish theme was used back in the days of VMwaros and still available, but I chose to abandon it for the same reason you told here, and replaced with Icaros Blue for the reasons I'm saying now. |

| Nice!
@paolone
I liked the old "OS4" theme more than the current. However, current theme is still much better than AROS default theme. Everybody has its own taste. |

| @paolone You are right it is not a clone of AmigaOS4's standard theme... but it is uncomfortably close for my liking. (I noticed it in nearly every AROS video posted to AW.net, and eventually thought I should say something.)
It may well be based upon OS3 not OS4, but the end-result is that it looks suspiciously similar when it has stuff like: * A dark blue to light blue vertical shading of window title bar (as on OS4 but no OS3). * A subtly vertically shaded near-white screen title bar (as on OS4 but not OS3). * Rounded window corners (as on OS4 but not OS3). * No separator bars between window title gadgets (which were present on OS3 but not OS4). * An icon in the very left of the screen title bar (as on OS4 but not OS3). * Extremely similar-looking window scroll bars (dark to light blue horizontal shading of scroll button, much darker blue shading in scroll bar 'hole', rows of dots for the scroll bar button 'handle' - all present on OS4 but none on OS3). * and possibly more I overlooked.
Of course, none of these individual elements are unique to AmigaOS4... but their combination arguably is (or was before this AROS theme anyway). Last edited by ChrisH on 03-May-2011 at 09:56 AM.

| Personally I like this theme much more than the one that is used in IcAROS:
I don't really like how the rounded titlebar is done in the default IcAROS theme. The theme above is cleaner and more goodlooking IMHO. |

Horrible theme.
I like more plain OS3 look used in old AROS releases - it is simple and useful. |

That's part of the whole point of AROS. Anyone can customize/skin AROS to their liking and then release it as their own distro. You don't like how Icaros looks? Download plain AROS. Don't like plain AROS? Download Hollywood. Don't like Hollywood? Make your own theme and release it!
I think part of the reason for the popularity of Icaros is that it does look like AmigaOS4. In case some people have missed it (Hyperion?) there have been "customers" willing to pay for a product that looks like AOS4 that runs on X86 for ~10 years. Hyperion never would listen. Icaros fills this gap. There are lots of of that like the look the of AOS4 but want to run X86. Icaros gives us this when no one else will. _________________ A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back in my day, we didn't have water. You can get the plain OS3 look by commenting out C:Decoration in startup-sequence. Bonus: It'll make AROS noticeably faster - decoration is pretty slow still. _________________ Wiki for new/returning Amiga users - Projects: ACE basic compiler / FrexxEd / Git
