hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Icaros Desktop 1.3 now available
   posted by paolone on 1-Jun-2011 20:26:46 (2972 reads)
The new "point release" of the popular AROS distribution Icaros Desktop has been released, and is available for download in the usual two versions, Light (ideal for CD-ROM and pendrives) and Live! (the whole software pack on a DVD).

This version brings a completely renewed AmiBridge, now using Janus-UAE coherency mode to integrate M68K Amiga applications in the AROS desktop; a better choice of games and applications, a exclusive emulator of the Nintendo NES, and many other enhancement to every side of the distribution.

A complete press release for editors is available here

Files, screen shots and further infos are on the Icaros website

@paolone

Congratulations over a major release!

I got issue here, known with Icaros 1.2.4 - when I try to boot Icaros CD via an USB-attached CD-ROM on my Samsung N130 netbook, CD gets invisible by AROS when it takes over control (i.e. after GRUB).

Is there a chance that this issue persists no more with most recent Icaros? I ask because I just downloaded latest Icaros 1.2.x in order to try.

@ DiskDoctor

Using an external Samsung CD-ROM as well, no problems so far with 1.3.

I just entered the BIOS settings and selected boot from CD-ROM first.

@Shufflepuck

Thanks for the comments. But the issue here is kindda different. My Samsung does see the USB CD drive on boot but when AROS kicks, the said drive becomes 'offline' (see: USB stack).

Which Samsung do you use in particular anyway?

@ DiskDoctor

I have an external DVD writer model SE-S084D, white version:

It's nice because you can also hook it to an USB enabled TV and playback DVDs directly
