hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaONE X1000 beta boards in production
posted by noXLar on 5-Aug-2011 23:16:45 (5192 reads)
A-EON has started production of the AmigaONE X1000 motherboard for beta testers. The current revision of the board is 2.1. Read below for the news from A-EON!

Wellington, 4th August 2011

The “Golden” Child – Nemo revision 2.1 A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that the Nemo revision 2.1 “gold” motherboard has passed inspection and full production of boards destined for the AmigaOne X1000 betatest team is now underway.

AmigaKit, the official distributor of the A1-X1000, will take delivery of the first batch of boards from Varisys next week and will begin shipments to team members shortly after.

In other good news Steven Solie, the AmigaOS Development Team Leader, has confirmed that AmigaOS4.2, the latest version of the Amiga Operating System will be released with the AmigaOne X1000.

Let’s “Keep this party going!”

The AmigaOne X1000 is not like other computers. It is the natural evolution of the Amiga’s PowerPC lineage and is a culmination of efforts by real Amiga enthusiasts, developers and betatesters to create powerful, modern desktop hardware for the Amiga Operating System. Please visit the A-EON Technology website at
http://www.a-eon.com for more details.

Damn, I'm starting to drool at the bare thought of getting one and my economy just don't allow for it at this moment in time....sigh!

And the worst part is that this computer surely will be a collectors item in a few years....AND I WANT ONE NOW!!

Just the thought of having an AOS compatible computer with THAT CHIP onboard makes me crazy (PASEMI UBER COOL CPU)

AmigaOne was originaly intended to "rebirth the Amiga desktop platform".

The PPC lineage is longer than 2004.
1997 saw the PPC boards for Classic Amigas

Cool!

That means the hardware testing is completed and approved. Beta-testing OS4.2 (starting with update3+beta I suppose) can't then be too long. Maybe we will actually have it by christmas!

its probably bug fixs, track modification etc or adaption to new equivalent parts which had problems sourcing.

when you think of it, the Amiga 1200 motherboard, had no major changes yet had many revisions

Any change, no matter how small, will cause a rev change, it doesn't even have to be a board change, a paper change will do it. Bottom line, the bd spec & function did not change.

Mine was too, that is until this last year. I gave up waiting and spent it on my 1959 Chevrolet Apache restoration bills.

Since bare X1000 motherboards won't be sold now, that means they only have to be tested with the included hardware, which is just a video card, ram, and cpu fan. That shouldn't take long.

@thinkchip

Since they will be testing OS4 (which includes all the drivers) they will of course be testing all possible hardware any user could possibly put into the machine to make sure all drivers are running as they should. Especially new SATA and USB2 drivers but obviously also all supported gfx and sound cards including built-in sound.

Since they now know the hardware is working correctly, any bug will for sure be software/driver bug. Something they weren't sure of when testing the A1 earlybird mobos loosing a lot of time.
