It's all written in C so, it's hardly coding 68k ASM to x86 ASM.

Oh, and I'd rather have a larger userbase than some heat-saving gimic any day. And yes, I would do the porting for free if in the longer term I'd be more than likely to make more money... 1% of the x86 crowd buying my product would be worth more than 95% of the current Amiga market.

Hyperion have shown that they can change direction when they choose.
No direction should be ruled out. But no one will force them to move until they are ready.

Amiga OS4.x for a Powepc Netbook could set a base to move AmigaOS to X86 NetBook or Arm Netbook. A fixed custom OEM design sold with the Amiga OS would allow this as it
keeps the initial configurations to a managable level.

Time will tell.

Thanks for the clarification, hope it will be so (nice performance of e300 core and PowerVR). AMCC chips realy have bad performance ration, even SAMs are lovely boards

While x86 port is long wanted, its simply not simple. Apple was only one to do such thing (and Microsoft will with ARM port) but for couple of boards. Only M$ has contract for all the cards there to have drivers (no Linux drivers for most of PCI/USB hardware) so x86 hardware would dissapear in a year from market and wouldn`t be that easy to get. Also even the OS gets x86 it needs to have PPC emulator inside to run AmigaOS 4 apps - again only Apple did it (Rosetta Stone software) but haven`t licenced it to anyone.

Next year you will have more AmigaOS 4 / PPC linux hardware then ever, if you want it!

Yes, understand people would like to use it on their x86 PC`s, but that is simply not easy, as there is no MorphOS for x86. It took a lot of effort and time for AmigaOS to go PPC, there is some hardware around and its great OS is so fast (otherwize we would be really in trouble) and now we should cry and cry no one has interest and milliuon dollars or so to fund such great x86 and drivers porting instead of using what we have.

True, but while OS4 is legaly sold with PPC hardware, what do you think, what would be the magnitude of piracy once x86 OS 4 would reach torrents? Its not that easy road and solution as it usualy looks like. Plus OS4 is not yet ready to compete to x86 Linux / Windows / MacOS. But is going forward step by step

Me too, I even looked into those PAWS things once but they never came to fruition.

I am using a Windows netbook at the moment but would far rather ahve one running OS4. When I say I am "using" the Windows netbook, it is basically as a wifi router for my Amiga One while I am away from home. I am still using the A1 as my main computer.

Now it would be fantastic to just use an Amiga netbook on its own. Will the netbook work with the dongles though or only in a free wifi area ?

Finally a OS4 machine we can afford and to 100% completion this is going to upstage the x1000

Holy poop on a stick! This is IMHO way bigger than the X1000. If it's priced competitively with other netbooks (ie sub-$400) then this has the potential to reignite interest in AmigaOS outside of the community. A PowerPC netbook should have a longer battery life than most x86 ones, and since most people use netbooks for relatively OS-agnostic tasks they wouldn't be giving up much to run Amiga OS (eg OS4 in its current state can never become my main PC - but an Amiga netbook could easily replace my little Samsung N120 running win7 since all I use it for is web browsing and reading PDFs in bed). Once people have it, some will start messing around with programming and with a bit of luck we'll have more than the usual couple dozen guys writing new apps. I think I might start dusting off the ol' RKRMs...

From a developer point of view, more exposure to customers, and as Apple have proven (appstore), you don't have to price software high to make money.
I can only see this as a win win situation for th Amiga Community.

Exactly. This would let people play with AmigaOS at very little cost, and if they like what they see but find it constricting then they can upgrade to a more powerful system.

This could be worth something. I needed something better than my MicroA1-c to test code on and if it has decent 3D drivers, a netbook could just fit the bill.

here in denmark fiber optic is relly going forward..
buy one, plug in the vga cable set it up like it was a desktop. with a 22 inc screen or what you like,then plug in the network cable and after that smack the screen down on laptop.pull out the vga put the box away someware and you will have an perfekt server.... i will get one as a server i will ripe off the lcd screen and let it be an deticated server, i will buy one for my self to use in trafic and at frinds houses, i will force or buy one for my brother. and the same goes for like 3/5 frinds...

not wee wee just need the jit in aue and a release date of candy factory 2 and the new rebol.. i will buy hollywood for my 30 th birth day 11 november this year...

i think it will sell alot maby there will not make as much moneys on evry hardware sold but the os 4.x gets out in the hands of the computer pepole... were it should be....

sorry to inform you, the logical path would be to port it to ARM one day in the future, as ARM is taking over, Give it years and ARM will replace intel / x86 archtiecture potentially like x86 did to PPC at the time of its era.

IT already has gone really well in the phone market.

The AmigaOS 4 developers did find the 'Port2x86' command in the original 68k source, but since there's no documentation no one really knows what running this command will do. Sure, it might make AmigaOS run on x86, but it could also make AmigaOS run with 172 ports, which as you know is pretty dangerous.

Running that command seems like an easy thing, but the developers can't risk it. Best they stick with PowerPC.
