Software News   Software News : mui-mplayer port from morphos to amigaos4 released
   posted by kas1e on 24-Oct-2011 20:16:06 (19615 reads)
Hi all

We with Deniil, with big help from Fab (of course, and as usuall :) ) , release a first version of mui-mplayer port from morphos. Check os4depot for it (in upload query for now).

screenshot

There is many thinks to say, but in brief:

The advantages over the our current os4 port: newer mplayer code, better structurisation and code itself, mui-gui with all the stuff , better integration of streaming (working over bsdsocket.library directly), no SDL, sound over AHI, rendering over cgx_wpa and all the other pluses about which know only Fab as he author.

The minus now only one: No overlay. Because of it, in full-screenmode you have no scalling (to avoid slowdowns). Overlay will be implemented pretty soon (i hope).

If you want command line : use it from the shell

If you want GUI: run from the icon (tooltype GUI). If you disable that tooltype, then from the icon it will just ask for the file which need to open.

PS: its is _NECESSARY_ to have update3 minimum, if you want to use GUI. Or, you need MUI from update3, which you can copy on older version of OS and it will works as well. Through, better to just have update3, to avoid any possible problems.

So as usuall thanks to Fab for his sources, to Thore who works on MUI, to Deniil who help with porting and to DeadWood for some help as well.

@Dwyloc

The only chances that it will be fixed if only you will provide all the info. I.e. how it crahses, when, what happens if you run it from shell. What happens if you run it from shell with "mplayer -gui 1", what writes in the shell when crash happens and so on.

Without than info, its unluckyly to be fixed (because for me on peg2 it works all the time fine).

@murakami
What machine ? What OS ? Update3 , mui works and so on ? What happens if you run it from the shell like "mplayer -gui 1" , and what it say before crashing ? Muiowb works fine for you ? Just in case, when you will try to run it from shell, try to increase a stack (maybe i forget stack cookie).

@kas1e

Its a startup crash from Workbench and also from the shell it crashes without displaying any output to the shell.

Silly question could the problem be that I don't have a G4 CPU like your peg2?

I don't know to be honest .. It have altivec support, but programm still shoul runs fine.

I.e. you run it from shell, just like "mplayer" and it just crashes immedeately ? If so, just for test, try to do "stack 10000000", just to be sure.

Just tried that and again same startup crash with no shell output and the error says "Guru Meditation:80000004 Task 0x5b920030 ("mplayer") generated an error of type program on address 0x6ee40690 Redzone was not damaged Stackpointer is inside bounds" so it does not look like a stack problem.

If I click on Disassembly the line "6ee40690: 101e038c vspltisw v0, -2" is high lighted if that is of any help.

Same error here as well even when upping the stack manually.

This is on a bog standard sam 440ep using integrated gfx.

@kas1e

Crashes also on AmigaOS4.1 Classic update 4 (beta). Your OWB MUI works though.

Similar crash to the others.

Grim Reaper crashlog.

By what crashlog i mean crashlog from crash at startup as others, or crashlog somethere in the mplayer when you use it ?

Anyway, seems altivec stuff. Maybe i just #### some code which check on altivec/non-altivec and it always point on altivec.

@Dwyloc
Seems altivec, right.

Crashlog is from when I attempted to run mplayer from the shell with a gui.
Crashed immediately.

@TiredOflife

Aha, got it. So altivec too then.

@all
Ok, for now then by some reassons altivec is enables by the code, and it just crashes on any machine which not have altivec. Stay tuned for fixed version, but i think not today (hope tomorrow).

Can you compile a non-altivec version?

I think the same version will works at with altivec and without. Looks like i just mess with cpu-detection. Need just to fix the code and so on.
