Hardware News   Hardware News : Commodore USA's Final Challenge to the Community
posted by BigBentheAussie on 19-Dec-2011 19:44:52 (66412 reads)
Commodore USA has a final challenge for this community that could enable them to have a new Commodore AMIGA with absolutely any of the features they want. We are serious about this, and we hope you will also take this offer seriously too, and contribute positively to the fruition of the Commodore AMIGA dream.

Allow me to outline our final challenge to the community, and how we can work together towards a unifying goal.
I have a list of obligations for the parties.

1. The community must definitively decide, through polls or whatever, what exactly it wants a Commodore AMIGA from Commodore USA to be.
2. Commodore USA will build and/or sell all product/s that will bear the official Commodore AMIGA brand.
3. Commodore USA will sell the first batch of a particular product AT (THEIR) COST to pre-paid customers only.
4. A minimum of 500 customers must pre-pay the entire amount in an independent account at a trusted institution (at the community's discretion) for the project to begin.
5. Commodore USA will negotiate for all required technology, be it software or hardware, and such costs will be divided by the amount of customers in the initial batch. So the more that join in, the lower the overall cost.
6. Commodore USA will outline all the costs, in as much detail as they are able to, before any customers make payment.
7. Commodore USA is ONLY paid on completion of the work to the satisfaction of the 500+ first batch customers, when the final product is ready to ship.
8. On project commencement, Commodore USA will provide monthly project updates until completion.
9. If Commodore USA does not perform the required work in 6 months of the project commencement date, then the 500+ customers have the option to withdraw immediately for a full refund of their prepayment.
10. Commodore USA reserve the right to affix a margin, at their discretion, to future sales of the product/s, past the initial batch.
11. The community will nominate two independent representatives or leaders who will liaise more closely with Commodore USA and report back to the community.
12. Sometimes negotiations require an NDA, that would limit public consumption of exact costs. In such circumstances that an NDA is required, the two nominated representatives of the community, who will also be under NDA, can independently verify such costs.
13. There will be no advertising of the product or its components by Commodore USA until project commencement.
14. In the meantime, Commodore USA will potentially continue with its current x86 based Commodore AMIGA plans, that will co-exist with the community's desired Commodore AMIGA branded product/s.

Warmest Regards,

Nope...we're saying you decide what you want. Take a vote...
We go to the relevant parties and price it out.
If you want it, you put your money in an independent account and convince 499 of your buddies.
We build it in 6 months....and if we don't you can take your money back.
Think of it as an Amiga land kickstarter.

I think any new Amiga computer system should probably run the Amiga Operating System myself. There are quite a few Amiga programmers that have worked on it already.

Then again, I may be slightly biased.

Until you can't develop or sell any AmigaOS or any type of "Amiga like" operating system, the whole process ends with a standard x86 PC with Linux and a sticker, pretty useless as we can buy PC everywhere and we can print alone any stickers we like ...

@samo79
You can change or at least mitigate that....but it will take effort for the community to both decide and commit to a proposition.
If the community can't put together 500 people to purchase a product you want, at cost......
Then what hope is there?
We're ready to help you get what you want....just decide.

Look...it really should be as simple as putting up some options in a poll to get closer to a product the majority desires.
Then get into more and more specifics until you land closer to a desired result.
Rinse....Repeat...

When you're done, we'll talk to everyone, and get a costing.
Like the costing....like the product...ya put's ya money where ya mouth is.
We don't get any money until we build it or make it happen, so what have you to lose.

This as real as a heart attack.

So let me get this straight you want us the Amiga community to come up with an idea of what you should build with the Amiga brand, (most likely nothing can be done with Aros or AmigaOS without Hyperion approval any way) and then we raise founds for you to build it (a company with $30 million advertising pot) we get the stuff at costs (because we basically paid for the work to be done anyway) and then any more you sell (which should be pretty much mostly profit) you get to keep.

Brilliant business plan.

Seriously it a nice jester and I get it, that you can lend the Amiga brand to a community driven project. But the fact of the matter is Aros, Nataim, Imica, Mini Mig, Morphos and countless other community driven projects proven that we dont need the brand or companies to get things that we want, where there is a will there is a way and this community is a very special one at getting thing we want.

So basicaly it will be our fault if the Amiga fails, if we dont go along with this ?

But, I'll play along......

How about a middle and top of the range intel PC running a x64 port of Hyperions AmigaOS ??

Feasable ?

Cheers !

Martin

Final challenge ... 14 points of no-thing

They are "challengers" ...

Thanks, but no thanks, hope that this is really final one.

@Metalheart

I don't know....Up to Hyperion to quote.

If they wanted to they could use AROS as base and port higher level libraries and functionality.
At the end of the day any Amiga-like OS running on x86 using the AmigaOS brand name still gets them a royalty payment.
Depends on how much they want to compromise to get it done.
Just a suggestion....one possible solution....with it's own set of problems....but not a technical problem.

Was not suggesting that.
Commodore OS is perfectly fine for that purpose.
There was never a Commodore OS before....so why shouldn't it be Linux?
But let's not get off track...

Deciding is the first step.
If you can't even decide....then heck.....what hope is there?
We're giving you a chance here to put the Commodore and Amiga brands on the products you want. We'll even build it....and give it to you AT COST!!!
