software OS4   software OS4 : New version of SabreMSN
   posted by Deniil715 on 22-Apr-2012 17:56:37 (4069 reads)
OnyxSoft has recently released a new version of Jahc's MSN chat client SabreMSN with the following changes:

- Fixed a number of memory leaks, especially one continuous leak.
- Added a status icon for oneself to make it easier to see what status I have.
- Made a setting to use or not the status icons for those who think they are
ugly.
- Improved the auto-Idle timeout such that it only sets you idle if you are
truly idle and not using mouse or keyboard for 10 minutes. Also unidle
automatically when sending a message.
- Made the height of the chat input text box adjustable.
- Put the button bar into a virtualgroup to let you scale down the window.
- Made the Quit requester look a bit nicer and accept keys.

Deniil for president !

@Deniil

Btw, i ask about it Jahc back in times, but as you works on it, want to ask you as well then:

not hard to implement (i hope) : just i small shiny button in the chat window called "history". User just press on it, and have logs only with that person, and in good format (i.e. just like Miranda have). Because as logs done now, its a bit un-intuitive.

hard to implement, but good to have in future: make Sabre protocols support modulate. I.e. one module : msn protocol. Another module: jabber, another : icq and so on.

Thank you very much for this update! It works great! I'm so glad onyxsoft has taken over the development of this program, that means constant and very good quality-wise updates!

I'd suggest to crunch the bugs it may have and add new features before adding support for other protocolos (great idea tho).

Cheers,

Dragster.

Hello,

Thanks for this update.

If you have time for this problem:
- sending a file to a friend with a PC, transfert speed not more than 8ko/s (I can 64ko/s upload).

There are a library for protocol on amigabounty.

http://www.amigabounty.net/?function=viewproject&projectid=74

Never seen Miranda so I have no idea what its log looks like. But I agree what we have now can be a bit difficult to read. Should at least be able to set different color/shade and possibly right-justify for example my own text, and have the remote text left-justified.

Not happening, sorry The source is a bit messy (Jahc admitted so himself as well) and very very non-modulated. It would be easier to write a new program from scratch, or ask for the source for Slash's chat client that already have this.

I'll have a look at the file sending code. Might have been written a bit inefficiently.

I'll try. It would be very nice to have.

There is example of how it looks like: screenshot.

You can see there is main chat window have at the right top angle few buttons. One of them are history (i point on it via red line). Once user press on that button, a history window (also shown on screenshot) popups and you can read everything normally, scroll it, find in it , and so on. Every log (for every user in list) are saved as separate txt file , which in end give ability to just use them in any other ways.

Something like this should be easy to add, and very handy to have

Hmm, ok. But Sabre can also save the log and have it loaded everytime you open a chat window. There is a line limit as well. But you want to be able to search it?

You can also just double-click an offline user and see the log.

@deniil
I mean just to have ability to get the logs from the main chat window. Because very offten you talk talk, and you need to copy something and paste from log, or just search in the logs something. And so, you just press small history button, and do with the log all what you need. Of course there should be no limit , search functions and ability to copy+paste everything + coloring , and all the not-hard but handy stuff :)

For example, as it now (loading of the logs at opening of chat window) also a bit bad, because when your log are big enoug, it will slow down the main chat window as well. But when logs are in different window, then even if they veeery big, the slowdowns will be happens only in that history window, not in main one.

By all of this i mean, that routines for handle logs, should be just like some separate stuff, which calls once user press on history button.

ps. I will be on onyxsoft channel next days, so we can discuss the stuff.

@Deniil715

I'm the guy that helped jahc with MSNP11 challenge responses, and wrote a file and avatar transfer protocol documentation that he used.

The reason file transfers are slow is because they're done through the switchboard.

If you go on the AmiMSN website, you can find the docs i've written on how to do direct transfers. AmiMSN doesn't have this completely implemented but at least i've documented how to do it if you ever want to give it a go.

@kas1e

Actually I rewrote the MUI input loop in Sabre so a long log should not be a problem anymore. It should just blipp in there unless its 10s of thousands of lines long.

I don't have Classic and Jahc apparently had some problems with a 68k build I heard so i didn't really want to dive into that knowing how horribly buggy those old compilers are. But I can give it a try and see how far I get. I have the 68k setup on my A1.

@MickJT

I'll see if I get the energy to rewrite the file transfer some day...
