Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : iBatch + Image2IconGUI V.2 - Italian Week -
   posted by gerograph on 17-May-2012 20:58:21 (2773 reads)
This week we have lots of news regarding iBatch. Especially some news from Italian "iBatch supporters":

1. iBatch website, is now ready for multi language support. Currently we have an Italian translation and English as build in. www.geobiz.de/ibatch.html

2. Simone "Tuxedo" kindly integrated an "iBatch mode" into LoViewThumb thumbnailviewer. You can completely replace integrated thumbnailviewer (iThumb), if you want. AW newsitem on LoView

3. Thumbnail Icons for your images can now easily be created using Image2IconGUI V.2. Even a proper alignment for your icons can be obtained by using auto cropping or resizing. Image2IconGUI V.2 can be used as standalone and in conjunction with iBatch as plugin/capsule.

You donnot have to wait for OS4.2 thumbnailicon functionallity -it is here already !

About Image2IconGUI V.2:

i2iGUI enables you to create Icons showing thumbnails of images in
a given directory. Resulting thumbnails can be rendered Amiga OS 3.5 Icons
or OS 4.x compatible DualPNG Icons (full color). If needed, thumbnail Icons
will be cropped or resized in order to have all the same demension. This results
in a perfect alignment on your Workbench. i2iGUI can be used
as standalone or in conjunction with iBatch (therefore as plugin). When used as
Plugin for iBatch, it will be called "image2icon plugin capsule", as it is not just
a "plugin". "Capsules" always utilize third party software. In this case you need
Image2Icon CLI Tool (at least for OS3.5 Icons).

Features
- create preview thumbnail icons of a given directory
- crop/resize Icons for better alignment (same width and height)
- true color Dual PNG (OS4) and rendered OS 3.5 Icons
- add a black border around Icon
- or add glow effect
- print image resolution onto thumbnail icon
- determine program to be used when opening image (default tool)
- print EXIF Information into Icon's tooltype field

Image2IconGUI can be downloaded from iBatch Website and later from OS4depot and Aminet.

@Toaks
iBatch will, then fit perfectly to your needs:

Start iBatch -> choose directory -> generate thumbnails -> view/select thumbnails (either using inbuild thumbnailviewer or e.g. LoView -> choose a rename pattern -> GO.

In case every image should be renamed manually, it might be a good idea to also generate Imagethumbnailicons using Image2IconGUI V.2.

@All
How to use LoViewThumb and iBatch
(In case you didn't check FAQ on iBatch Website...)
- In LoViewThumb Tooltypes set "IBATCH=TRUE"
- Open iBatch -> Menu Project/Prefs
- choose LoViewThumb path... and save !!!
- Open ibatch.prefs file in a texteditor, alternate this line:

;-------------- thumbnail/filemanager program you are using ----------------------------------
Work-1:LoView/LoViewThumb

to
;-------------- thumbnail/filemanager program you are using ----------------------------------
Work-1:LoView/LoViewThumb -dir

Donnot forget to save. After clicking "CHANGE/MAKE BATCHLIST" LoViewThumb will appear...
- select e.g. images to be rotated into right direction using your right mousebutton.
- select copy icon inside LoViewThumb
- click on "rotate right"

If you are done, close LoViewThumb

@gerograph

Thanks a lot for the tips, i will try it out tonight.

Dopus Magellan II used to do this kindof things really fast (multi rename,batching,thumbs etc) so i am a bit miffed that OS4 still havent got this implemented into the workbench.

Will let you know how it goes :)

Ok, no problem.

I restore the latest back up I had, but it dated last november

I took my old console to sony service just to get the BD out of the reader (didn't trust myself that much lol) but I'll try the youtube hack as soon as I get it back.

@g0blin

do youself a huge favor and just register for playstation Plus service.
you get a minimum of 4 free games a month and you get cloudsave, for less than 40 euro a year.

you won't ever lose a save again.
(including those that's write and copy protected!)

sorry to hear about your backup being that old and all... but i see this everyday in Q/A + reports.

What can I say: life is just a matter of lessons learned. I will subscribe for sure.
I never realized how big and widespread this problem (YLOD) is and, in my honest opinion,
I never aspected this comimg from Sony.

Anyway, it is too easy to blame it on someone else., so I'll learn from this and move on.

YLOD is not all that widespread, i mean.. look at Xbox360 where the fail ratio is above 30% , PS3 YLOD was first gen related only and it topped at 8% if the numbers are to be belived.

Gen 1 PS2 had a fail rate that was higher (12%? IIRC).

PS1's ... lasers for all gens also had a pretty big fail ratio.

Man, conversations with you are getting more interesting every minute.

It looks like I've been pretty lucky with my consoles all this time, since I also own a Dreamcast and a GameCube. Never had any problem.

But, wasn't this thread about iBatch?

A bit off topic, aren't you However g0blin does a great job for iBatch and related plugins/capsules. He did it all !!! From the spanish side we have Javier de las Rivas, as for polish language (which is not available for every plugin) we should thank Thomasz Paul. Thanx folks. If you have questions donnot hestitate to mail me (see homepage for support mail address)

@gerograph

yeah, sorry about that offtopic stuff, got a bit carried away :)

tried ibatch ,lo view and the image2icon too.

its pretty ok, i did have some problems tho... dunno , maybe its my fault but i will mention it here anyway...

i have 30+ directories with pictures, some files have the same names etc.. but it seems it remembers that 002.jpg is a certain 002.jpg which was in a diffrent drawer which was done earlier...

20:00
stuff:pictures/today/002.jpg

generated fine.

20:02
Stuff:pictures/yesterday/002.jpg

generated but has icon thumb from the today drawer...

help? :)

other than that, it feels slower than it should be, Ibatch process/image2icon etc, i guess there is some setting that i havent found ?

Also, can we get an "if name allready exists" then rename file to orginal filename + 1 letter or something.

thanks :)

@Toaks
Strange... However:

a) Did you choose 2 different inputdirs and the same outputdir ?
In case inputfilename is the same as outputfilename, iBatch will overrite old file. So make sure you either:

- choose 2 different outputdirs
- use "wildcard" rename in order to put a lettter or number in front of original filename*
- use "prepend date" in case your images hold exif header*
- use "autonumber"*

* at least for your second inputdir.

Nevertheless, what wonders me, is that your new image (which overrode the old one) does not get a new icon... I have to check that. But normally Image2IconGUI should just overwrite old info file.

b) Did you use OS3.5 Style Icons or OS4 ?? in i2iGUI ?

The biggest bottleneck is saving images through Datatypes. Also 68k emulation makes it a bit slower... iBatch is and will be the 68k only as it was written in AmiBlitz. But compared to e.g. Jack it is still fast.

regards Gero
