I just paid for the Driver for my Sam460 that I bought 4 months ago. I have two reasons why.

One: Supporting Amiga developers is worth every penny and is the best way to show your commitment to an awesome platform.

Two: I like the idea of supporting the Radeon 5xxx or 6xxx card. They are easier to find than my current 4650. Beacause of that I can finally use the passively cooled card that is in my closet. It's a Sapphire 6540. Silence is golden :)

$50 CAD per license isn't a lot to ask for to improve and accelertae driver developement.

Considering you paid for a driver before said driver was even started on, I would PERSONALLY say you jumped the gun here. If that money really mattered to you, maybe you should have engaged brain before engaging wallet

According to the press release, older SAM460ex customers will not receive the driver free from ACube. Only new SAM460ex and AmigaOne 500 customer orders qualify. I suspect ACube will possibly incorporate the driver cost into the sales price.

Actually that's not entirely accurate. According to the press release:

The question I have is:

ACube do not state anything about older SAM 460ex systems in there.

The price of the drivers is already heavily subsidised and cannot be given away free of charge as there has been significant costs involved to develop these drivers. The large investment cannot be "written off". The Radeon v0.32 driver is written for the 4650 card which is available for all existing SAM 460ex customers. The new drivers are relevant if you wish to upgrade to a different card later in the range such as 5000 series or 6000 series.

Let me see if I have this straight. Those who bought an AmigaOne 500, or will buy an AmigaOne 500 from Acube will get the driver for free. Those who bought just the SAM460ex motherboard, or bought systems put together by vendors other than ACube, will have to pay for the drivers. I just want a little clarification.

If this is the case, I, having bought just the motherboard, will have to pay for the driver. This is not a complaint. Hans' work is worth the price.

That looks weird to me.
Yesterday I have paid via PayPal for the driver (having A1-500 from ACube and reading news about drivers I decided to buy it - knowing that I must buy it if I want to have it).
Today I'm reading news from ACube and I'm puzzled. I think, according to the ACube's statement, I should get this driver - as A1-500 user - for free.
So for now I feel a little bit strange, I paid for something which I should get for free. I don't complain about the price, I respect work of all parties involved but I don't understand lack of good communication between A-EON and ACube - it created some mess for registered users of A1-500.
