Software News   Software News : Hollywood Player 5.1 for Android out now
posted by softwarefailure on 12-Jul-2012 11:26:16 (1714 reads)
Airsoft Softwair is proud to announce that Hollywood is now also available for Android devices (ARM architecture). This makes it possible for the first time for every Hollywood user to run his Hollywood applets on smart phones and tablet computers running Android. Everything you need is the Hollywood Player for Android which is now available as a free download on Google Play. To see what Hollywood on Android looks like check out a little demo video on YouTube.

Please note that the Hollywood Player for Android requires at least Android 2.3. To get your own Hollywood project onto your Android device, simply compile it as a Hollywood applet (*.hwa) from the Hollywood GUI or Hollywood Designer and then copy it into a directory named "Hollywood" on the SD card of your Android device. Then you can easily run it using the Hollywood Player!

Feature wise the Hollywood Player for Android is pretty identical to the desktop version of Hollywood, plugins and videos are fully supported. Due to security reasons, however, certain functionality like starting external programs is currently disabled. You can find a complete list of differences between the desktop and mobile versions of Hollywood in the release notes in the Hollywood forums. Please note that the Hollywood Player for Android is a WIP snapshot from the current development version of Hollywood 5.1 which has not been released yet and is still a work-in-progress.

Due to the multitude of Android devices and the often scarcely documented native development interface of Android, it can happen that this app does not run on your Android device. If that is the case, please let us know in the Hollywood forums or via email.

With all due respect there's a lot more documentation on the Android development interface than there is on the Hollywood one!

I'm talking about the native interface here. Of course, the Java API is documented in every little detail but the native API on the other hand is just a bunch of C headers and you have to figure it out yourself. Hollywood's documentation is almost 800 PDF pages as of now.

Yep good question, even some more love about the video implementation would be good aswell, any video from Hollywood apps are too slow expecially on Sam440ep, see VAMP

Nice.
Now I could prepare presentations at home with Amiga and play them at work by using AV out of my cell phone!

Now... it seems also Meego has been restarted, and they are looking for partners.... perhaps HW could be used as Meego content maker????

Of course, it goes without saying that women and gender neutral persons don't belong in the target group.

@DJRikki, bit OT but are you sure you can't 'root' it then install gingerbread ?

So as I mentioned on the Video, I assume this means I can run the player on the Raspberry Pi as it is Arm powered. If so I would happily buy Hollywood development system as it will make massive sense and tie together a number of plans I am working on.

Congratulations!

I'm glad to see that you finally released a way to run the Hollywood software on Android. I had to test this, so I just made a quick presentation with a navigation-menu, showing some text, photos and playing an ogg vorbis tune in the background.

Pressed Compile, copied the file to my HTC Desire Z, and it worked perfectly! It even autoscales correctly if I rotate the screen.

I'm VERY impressed! Most companies spend a lot of money trying to adapt their software to Android. I manage to compiled our software Dental Info 4.5 within seconds, and it just worked!

With some modifications we can soon release a light-version of our software to our customers :)

Well done Airsoft Softwair! Once again you demonstrate your commitment to the amigascene - you are the best!

Not very likely. Building an *.apk involves several tools from the Java and Android SDK like a keystore generator and a jarsigner. Every *.apk has to be signed with a keystore. Replicating all these things in the cross-platform Hollywood compiler is way too much work. But I might release a package containing the Hollywood Player as a shared object along with a skeleton Android project which would allow users to build their own *.apk based on a Hollywood applet. But you would need Linux, Windows or Mac for that because you need the Java and Android SDK.

"Raise not bells ringing", I have tested some Hollywood programs or applets (.hwa) on an Acer Iconia with Android 4.x and some apps don't run fine for example SirenaPlayer, here the player in Android doesn't support Backgrounds with trasparences for example to Rosalia, and VAMP neither runs, but Bed Games I and BGAMigaPower version you can play perfectly with sound, graphcis, mods and wav and mp3 files, but this games run in a window, well, we can make games for this system and it work very fine in the buttons touching the tactil screen, in this case Andreas and the player are perfect but in the other two player, hum, not.
