hardware AROS   hardware AROS : New just made for AROS PC available: The Ares Cube S
posted by phoenixkonsole on 24-Oct-2013 17:43:27 (3117 reads)
First the sad news:
The AresOne Mini 1000 and 1600 are no more available.

Now the good news:
ARES m-7 is now the most sold ARES system ever, followed by ARES One 2010.

The difference may be that the AresOne was really bought by Amigans... I believe it is different with the m-7.

The Ares m-7 will be continued as long as possible. It features Firmware updates over Internet (without OS). Boots in seconds (<5). Ubuntu is in 2 seconds up. I didn't test Win8 yet. Measured from pressing the power-button.

In 2014 we will have 3 different platforms:
Ares Cube (S, M, L ) (Intel Celeron, i5, i7)
AresOne (surprise)
Ares m-7(i7) becomes xE2(Xeon E2)

Now the real buyable news:

Find it here:
www.ares-shop.de

Some specs:
Intel G1620 dual-core 2.7GHZ CPU
4GB RAM
USB3.0
SSD
Ethernet supported by AROS
Audio supported by AROS
G210 GPU with 1GB RAM supported by AROS
IcAROS preinstalled, optional other stuff
AMC the Amiga media Center

Money earned is reused in bounties or other AROS related projects (check power2people.org for Pascal P if you don't trust ; ) )

Nice!

But I must ask, what is the AresOne PPC?
Is it a PPC machine running AmigaOS and MorphOS?

AresOne PPC is SAM460 based so it is a bit too early for morphOS yet but as soon it is ready than yes.
I have got a new price list from acube so i will reduce the price and add a new less expensive AmigaOS 4
Machine.

Hi

I didn`t follow news or so about Ares... but I have a question regarding names:

What is difference between: Ares, Aros and Areos? What is it? I know from somewhere that AmigaResearchOS [should be Aros?] is free Amiga-On-a-PC system. What are Ares and Areos-es then?

Yep AROS is an opensource reimplementation of AMIGA OS 3.1 and is available for x86, 68k, x64, mips, arm and ppc. The most supported branch is x86, followed by 68k and than arm.

AresOne is a PC build for AROS (since 2009). AUDIO, 2D, 3D and ethernet are working under native AROS.

AEROS is a mixture of Aros and linux. I comine AROS hosted (not emulated or virtualized!!) And debian linux.

Aros hosted uses linux api drivers for audio, video and ethernet. So it can run on any linux supported hw.
Also it includes a command called lx which allows to call linux apps from aros shell.

Their is no difference between Aros i386 native and hosted regarding compatibility to apps. N need to do special compiles of applications. Any i386 aros app runs under native aros, as well as under hosted aros. Same will be true for arix.

Difference between aeros and arix will be that aeros comes with a fully working linux environment while arix uses only the linuxkernel for hw abstraction.
