software OS4   software OS4 : New DVD with more than 70 games!
   posted by elwood on 10-Nov-2013 17:24:20 (3979 reads)
ACube Systems and Hugues "HunoPPC" Nouvel teamed up to bring content for your Amiga. We created a DVD for you with a big collection of games and emulators for AmigaOS.
The DVD contains more than 70 games and emulators for AmigaOS! Many of them were not released before. Others were included for those of you who have a poor or no Internet connection.
Some games also have a Wazp3D configuration so that even without a 3D capable graphic card you can still appreciate the game running as fast as possible through software rendering.

Due to license restrictions many data files could not be included directly on the DVD but we provided an installer that will download them from the web and install them on your game directory. So your game is only one double-clic and a download away! :)

Also HunoPPC wanted to give a special gift to all Amigans: the GLeXcess demo with sound. It's unique on AmigaOS.

Get the DVD on our online shop now!
It's only 14.65 Euros for European customers and 12 Euros for people outside European Community. It's a very low price. Do not miss this opportunity!

@m3x

i seem to have run into some problems with the store. once selecting USD as the currency all items show up as $0.00 and even if i tried to checkout, it won't let me choose any shipment option other than 'pickup in-store' for some reason. any ideas?

@m3x

i did, and it works now.

the only thing is that i am unable to select shipping options besides 'in-store' pickup, which being in the USA isn't much of an option, and express delivery, which is $36USD. if there is a low-cost shipping option at some point, i'll place the order in a flash!

@eliyahu

Please tell us what items you want at info at acube-systems.com and we'll look for better options for shipping.

Thank you.

Now I need to go to sleep as I'm exhausted (I'm back from the show).

Of course, it goes without saying that the entire AmigaOS community should be thrilled to know that the fine people of Nintendo, Id Software, Apogee Software and Capcom have agreed licensing the Zelda, Hexen, Heretic, Rise of the triad and 1941 trademarks to an Amiga software retailer. Although I understand that the conditions surrounding this agreement are probably classified and the result of tireless negotiations, getting the permission to publish these titles is nothing short of a milestone. Congratulations!

@petah

And naturally you base your assumption on a filename without actually seeing what the DVD contains exactly. I am sure if you bothered to look, you would see the Zelda titles are all fan made games, and the other titles will no doubt require the game wads from the original PC disks (Heretic/Hexen 2 being the two you cited).

And if you read the site, it does clearly state that game files are not on the DVD:

You sir, are making assumptions based on sloppy reading. Please read my post again, and you'll see that I haven't written a single word about actual data content.

@Petah

Do not worry about all that, we asked all the permissions and some datas are not present on the DVD due to licensing.

Some (listed in your list since we have to justify ourselves to you) asked to receive 5 DVD copies in order to allow us to include their materials and we sent them.

This DVD was not made in 2 weeks, it took more than one year ( testing games on different machines, optimizing them, cretaing readmes, creating installation scripts, contacting all the people we had to contact,...).

So, yes, do not make assumptions when you don't know.

Sorry, too lazy to check, but I assume that at least most ID software games are GPL licensed.

And GPL doesn't in any way prohibit commercial releases. You might even be able to include shareware data files (not sure though...)

Remember how Hyperion released their port of GPL licensed Quake 2?

As for the various "Zelda" games, that's more of a gray area. Don't know if the games use ripped graphics / music / sounds or whatever, but that also can be circumvented by not including the data files.

Doesn't matter if they use ripped graphics or not, Zelda is a Nintendo trademark and selling a product using the name could (quite unlikely given the obscurity of the product) provoke legal action if they haven't sought explicit consent from Nintendo.

No one at Nintendo remembers the Giana Sisters and the Amiga anyway!
