Software News   Software News : DigiBooster 3.1 released
posted by AndreasM on 25-Sep-2014 13:45:32 (1760 reads)
DigiBooster 3.1 was released for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS.

DigiBooster 3.1 is available on CD-ROM and as download in our online-shop:
http://www.amigashop.org

DigiBooster 3.1 follows the traditional tracker's way of making music with an advanced audio processing engine, and an up-to-date MUI based graphical user interface. It retains backward compatibility with its Amiga ancestor, DigiBooster Pro 2. On the other hand the program code has been written from scratch. Its modular design gives it a straightforward path for future development. Except for versions for classic Amiga computers, DigiBooster 3.1 is also compiled for PowerPC processors, taking advantage of their greater computing power.

DigiBooster 3.1 key features:

* ProTracker modules import. DigiBooster 3.1 can load and play basic four track modules, as well as multichannel ones, up to 32 channels. Import quality is significantly better than in DigiBooster Pro 2.x.

* Autosaving. DigiBooster 3.1 can save in user defined periods of time and keep defined number of lately saved versions with autorotation.

* Finished block operations in the pattern editor. DigiBooster 3 supports multitrack blocks. Block operations are also available in the ARexx interface.

* ARexx commands for loading/importing the module and starting playback.

* New languages: French and Polish.

I'm selecting goals for the next version currently. The list of features waiting for implementation is long. I would like to know priorities of users. Any comments?

And effects to apply on samples ?
I get problems with progressive bar during playing samples too. She goes away sometimes...

ARexx port will get more commands, also the bug with vanishing playback cursor in the sample editor is known, so I hope I will fix it in the next version. As for sample processing - a plugin system is planned, all sample processing operations will be plugins, implemented as shared libs and loaded on-demand. API for plugins will be public, so third party plugins will be possible.

It would be amazing if you could implement some default effects on each channel, like Delay, Reverb, EQ and probably a FFT filter[s]? :)

@djnick: I have planned this as a new kind of DSP panel, which will be shown with DSP button. It will be a borderless window displayed over the pattern editor and divided into columns - one column for each track, with the same width as track in the editor. It will also scroll horizontally together with the editor. Each column will contain following controls for a track: track volume, track balance, 3-band tone correction (low, mid, high), per-track default echo (4 controls) and simple dynamic compressor with sidechain option (probably 3 or 4 controls). All these controls will work realtime while playing, also their values will be stored in the module and respected by player.

As for reverb, I will probably not implement it in the player engine, realtime reverb is very CPU heavy. On the other hand reverb will be available as a sample editor plugin. It will work on a principle of convoluting impulse response of some environment with the sample. I have some reasonable collection of such responses, found in the Internet, like churches, concert halls, factory halls, rooms of different sizes, responses of hardware (usually old or vintage) reverb effects and even some unusual places, like a response of a metal bucket , or cheap 5 cm speaker from an old radio...

I also plan to add tunable lowpass, highpass and resonance filters as tracker effects.
