Software News   Software News : New RadeonHD 2.4 From A-EON Technology

New RadeonHD 2.4 drivers
Digital Composite Video Support

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of new and updated RadeonHD drivers for AmigaOS 4.

A-EON Technology have once again commissioned Amiga graphics developer, Hans de Ruiter, to update the existing RadeonHD V1.0 drivers to add support for the new range of RadeonHD graphics cards in the R5, R7 and R9 series. Existing registered owners of the RadeonHD v1.0 drivers can update to v1.2 free of charge on AMIStore or through the A-EON secure download server.

New RadeonHD V2 driver
In our ongoing and continued commitment to the AmigaONE X1000 platform, we also commissioned Hans to deliver hardware accelerated video playback using the RadeonHD graphics card’s own GPU. The delivers full screen 1080p video playback for AmigaOS 4 using RadeonHD graphics cards for the X1000 and compatible next generation AmigaOS systems. In addition we commissioned Hans to implement DMA support for the X1000 which unlocks the raw graphic power of the RadeonHD cards. The grpahics DMA work has additionally benefited other compatible AmigaOS plaforms.

The main features of the V2 driver are:

● YUV bitmaps with CompositeTags(). YUV420p bitmaps are 37.5% the size of 32-bit ARGB bitmaps so there's less data to copy to the graphics card.
● While overlay is restricted to 1-2 surfaces and does not respect transparency, Composite Video can render an unlimited number of surfaces and can perform alpha blending instead of chroma keying which can be used for advanced video effects.
● Videos can be Rotated, warped and even projected into another video.
● Alpha blending/compositing can be used for cross-fade between video files & other effects.
● Full 1080p Video playback with supported video files
● Support for the latest generation of AMD Radeon Rx graphics cards from the R5, R7 and R9 series**

The RadeonHD V1.2 & V2 drivers reaffirm our ongoing commitment to support the AmigaONE X1000 and our future hardware systems.

I guess Fishy_fis don't have a salary from his work.

@phoenixkonsole >> no actually you are not always allowed to express your opinion, atleast not if you are not diplomatic in your expression.

Is asslicking diplomatic? I just said that if someone has Money for unneseccary aquirements of Forums (to obviously controll them) it is a bit sad that customers of a comercial product (HW in that case) Need to buy a Driver for a Price of the OS alone...

Is this more diplomatic? What is wrong? Look i paid the first rate of the X1000 beta and said "Keep it i don't can afford to pay the rest" but just keep the first rate.

In AROS land alone that would finance a bounty.

Blood suckers.!

Sigh, phoenix, you are obviously a skilled and creative person that want to develop a nice alternative to the platform that was pretty much completely dead from a development point of view for many years.

I dont understand why you are increasingly frustrated with AeonKit tho. Yes, they did a flat out aquirement of amiga.org. Unless Trevor travel under false flags, it sounds that Amigaworld.net owner was ready to sell the site and Trevor was a willing buyer.
Considering the level of heated discussion that is allowed on both forums, I wouldnt say they moderate very agressivly, even tho they are accused of doing do.

AROS is a branch on the Classic tree, so I understand that you feel strongly in favour of that over AOS.
Why not use this and other forums to present/update people about your development in a positive manner?

For me 30 euros is nothing. Hell, i just bought the USB hardware from jens the other day for my a1200.
If there is intrest for something and priced at a semi reasonable level, then why shouldnt they ask for it?

I can understand that there are some frustration that someone gets "thrown" money after them for the same effort you are making, but blame the customers, not the vendors

Diplomatic would be, to not use the phrases and words you did in your post.

Besides, when you buy a graphic card for windows, you still pay for the driver.
Maybe you don't want to be paid for your work, but surely you can't expect that from others.

So i Understand correct. I can update to v1.2
But for 2.4 i must pay again , full price?
Or is there a cheaper upgrade price?
Dont Understand me wrong , i buyed the driver with no need of it.
Months later upgraded to a r6xxx.
But around 100!! Euro to get only a gfx driver, thats end of in german Fahnenstange !

POST OF THE YEAR. In fact: best post here in years.

Sadly, I don´t agree: I think they SHOULD CHARGE YOU A LOT MORE, judging by your words here.

Anyway: who f+#$ing cares, it is thanks to people like them and you, that Amiga is dead long time ago. The only future, even being maintained by so small group of heroes, is Aros.

@phoenixkonsole
I thought everyone learnt this years ago from the MOS vs OS4 forum wars (which had no winner, but did drive many users away from all Amiga-like things, hurting both sides), but it seems not:

Attacking your competition just makes YOU look bad & desperate. It is unlikely to convince people to join your side, but it may well drive people away from you... and potentially from all Amiga-like things if they get tired of the perpetual bickering.

If your (favoured) project is better than a competitiors, then celebrate your project's good points. If instead you stoop to criticising your competitor, then it just looks like you have nothing good to say about your own stuff, and makes you look like a nasty grumpy person.

In short, do as you mother should have taught you: If you have nothing good to say, then say nothing!

If I am no more allowed to post good Points about my product of course i go to offense and start bullshitting the competition as well. That's how things work.
And btw i am a OS4 user/customer as well, so i find it legit to critisize.

@Chris

there are reasons why Pascal is angry that are not directly connected to this driver

@ phoenixkonsole you can critisize all you want, but I would advise you to choose your words carefully, because it really only reflects badly on you.

@netrot

The Radiance bundle is £49 and is unofficially quoted as containing the following software.

New Driver Radeon HD
New version of Personal Paint 7.3 for OS4 and 68k - with new brushes, etc.
Sketchblock Lite with Fractals
Videos, Artwork, Candy, wallpapers, icons, etc.
Mplayer, DvPlayer.

Link.

DvPlayer alone is £25. I don't know the individual prices for the other software but on the face of it appears to represent good value for money. Lets hope the report above is correct and the new RadeonHD driver is included.

Edit.

The DvPlayer included in the Radiance bundle is a light version.

Very well. I'm using it right now on my A500 system.

On an A500 - impressive. Does it require 1MB Chipram and a 020 or does it run on a stock A500?

Are the R9 cards the latest Radeons? What is a recommended card for decent price and performance with the new drivers?

Just looking on Amazon and I can get a decent R7 card for about £50 which I would hope would be more than enough power for newer apps like Candi and Gallium when it comes out.
