software Classic   software Classic : A-EON Technology Acquires Personal Paint
posted by amigakit on 27-Nov-2014 15:33:19 (23094 reads)
A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that it has taken over the development of Personal Paint from Cloanto. The two companies had already started to cooperate in 2014 which resulted in the release of Personal Paint 7.2 and 7.3. These are the first new versions for several years, with the latest native versions available now on AMIStore for both AmigaOS 4.1 and AmigaOS 3.x.

As part of the agreement A-EON will exclusively develop and own all future AmigaOS versions of Personal Paint (including possible MorphOS and AROS ports). Additionally, A-EON and Cloanto will share joint ownership of Classic Amiga versions up to version 7.2, while Cloanto may continue to work on future non-Amiga versions.

Matthew Leaman, A-EON Managing Director, said, "A-EON Technology is proud to conclude this agreement with Cloanto. Personal Paint always had a strong following with Classic Amiga users and we are excited to drive it's future." Trevor Dickinson, A-EON’s co-founder added, "I've been an avid user of Personal Paint for many years. It became the leading easy-to-use Amiga program for bitmapped graphics and animation and was one of the first to support AGA and RTG graphics. These advanced features allowed Personal Paint to replace Deluxe Paint in Commodore's Amiga computer software bundles."

Personal Paint was the first commercial Amiga graphics program to break the 2Mb chip RAM barrier and to support PowerPC CPUs. However, it also included numerous other unique features which made it a favourite with many Classic Amiga owners. These included: professional colour reduction and merge, multiple brushes, filters, animation, file format plugins and stereograms together with PostScript and 24-bit printing. The constant reinvention of the possible applications of animated GIFs (also thanks to the expiration of related patents) helped drive continued demand for Personal Paint's exceptional support for palette based modes and optimised GIF code.

Cloanto's Michael C. Battilana commented on the transfer, "I am delighted to see future Amiga Personal Paint development efforts in the hands of an extremely motivated and talented team. I would also like to pay special thanks to Trevor. Without his generous commitment, the Amiga community wouldn't be as alive and kicking as it still is today."

We have stated several times that it would be available from A-EON servers in the future.

Earlier Classic versions of Personal Paint will be available to download free of charge from the A-EON server

Which is a very ambiguous statement since "the A-EON server" might as well mean only accessing the A-EON server from an AmiStore account using the AmiStore software on a supported platform.

But since you have clarified that since, all is well.

Wow surprise to see so many people complain on what should be good news, firstly keep in mind guys this is the Amiga market, If there here just to make a quick buck then as sad as it is to point out, the Amiga market is not the place to do that, for one simple not big enough market and its hard to out smart the community as this thread proven.

I for one dont have a problem buying PPaint, as I actually never had buy it for all my time using it, as a version came with my Amiga out of the box, then I ketp getting free upgrades with Magazine giving away more and more advance copyies.

Even PPaint 7.2 I got free thanks to clonto giving free update to Amiga Forever 2014. So this is good news. Perhaps the free version on Aminet should of remained, but maybe there reasons behind why it needed to be pulled, I dont know but still, this is good news, keep up the work.

I can access ppaint.amistore.net, but the download doesn't work (I only get a blank page).

Might very well be my Firefox setup, can anybody verify please?

Not gonna lie, but that picture gave me a laugh ^^

Other than that, I would use the "crazy" emote somewhat different/directed elsewhere.

I assume you used AeonKit approved Personal Paint version to make it? (tho admitting that would probarly get you in trouble over at Moobunny.)

Well, I suppose You have your right to Your opinion, just like I have My right to Mine...

I actually did NOT use the AeonKit Approved Personal Paint version to make that picture. I know PPaint, I used it quite a bit in ancient times. But I'm afraid it would be kind of useless for making this kind of picture, at least if you wouldn't want to spend less than an hour to achieve it. Luckily there are other paint apps!

And BTW, there is no "getting in trouble" at Moobunny. That entire site IS trouble. And Spam. And various shit. But it's open and honest. The last site of its kind in the "Amiga Community", I suppose.

And everyone reads it!

(OOPS! Now I suppose AeonKit will buy it?!)

I can see it now. Unless the old version can be downloaded from a simple link that works in iBrowse on a real Amiga there will be another ten pages full of abuse!

Well, that seems a reasonable thing to expect, and that's how it has always been. There's absolutely no need to require some proprietary app just to download a file, we have open standards for that.

Clicking on the download button at http://ppaint.amistore.net/ does nothing, it just opens a blank tab. I hope that doesn't count as making it available.

The subdomain is said to take that long to be available everywhere. But if you can see the download page, the sub domain already works, obviously. The download is broken.

@ Minuous

I just tried the link. Bit slow but it loaded here on Safari PPC. This would be fine except it's likely CSS loaded and will break on iBrowse or AWeb for that matter. . Having tested or or rather attempted to test NetSurf on 68K this isn't likely to work very well as it was hard to load up here (needs certain screen modes) and doesn't act like a real Amiga program. I read talk of OWB on 68K but I didn't know it was ported. This would be a better option as it should work like a real Amiga program and out of the box.

Downloading right now.

However, I think Aminet would be (and was) better place for it.
