posted by amigakit on 8-Jan-2015 20:09:47 (8030 reads)
A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce a new version of Personal Paint for both AmigaOS 4.1 and AmigaOS 3. The new version is free of charge upgrade for existing 7.3 customers now on AMIStore Amiga App Store and the AmigaOS 3 version is available directly from the A-EON Secure Download website for registered customers.

If you do not yet own PPaint, you can purchase this new version by either visiting the official website (www.ppaint.com) or on the AMIStore App Store.

Personal Paint for the Amiga has recently been purchased by A-EON Technology and is being actively developed by Andy Broad for A-EON. In keeping with our commitment to providing new quality software for the AmigaONE X1000, AmigaOS 4.1 compatible and Classic Amiga computers, expect further upgrades and enhancements to PPaint during 2015.

What a long winded rigmarole it is when you order, pay for and eventually get to download it.

@clint

I assume you did not use the AMIStore App Store to download PPaint because that process is quick and automated. The webpage ordering is manually authorised once payment is verified.

I did use the AMIStore APP Store, by the time you register, place the order, config the URL for the browser of choice on the Amiga, then purchase, get confirmation that the purchase is ok, etc. It then downloads and installs, without as far as I could see, no option to save the download so that I had a copy of that download just in case any thing happens in the future.

That,s why I stated "what a rigmarole"

PPFM_GfxFill.c:
The TmpRas buffer was allocated via the custom CreateBitmap function
this worked on AGA/ECS but and AmigaOS4 but when run on other RTG
systems, the buffer was of an incorrect memory type. Now allocated via
AllocateRaster when 'SafeDisplay' is set. Fixes freehand and polygon
fill tools on RTG systems.

It works on Mediator setup now, but still complains "There is not enough memory" on MorphOS. Is there still some check for chipmem or something like that?

But generally it works much better now on MorphOS too, thanks!

Although there still is at least one other nasty thing, which was with 7.1c too, but could it be looked too? Screen bar doesn't work properly on MorphOS, it for example doesn't show any text/info on it, and if you hide it PPaint hangs and makes CPU load to max. I guess it could be the same case when hiding it manually (F10) and in other cases where it should be hidden for the full screen (Show Image and playing an animation for example).

Hi.

I purchased ppaint (Os4) and it has been a delusion for me, even if I played quite few time with it.
I through that this new version was not a simple porting but an enhancement of the original code, this was surely for the inner functionalities but for what is more evident to the user nothing changed. The interface has not been modernized at all. Still the ugly menus 3.1 style, the custom filerequester etc. I think that a general gui rework is due to give a better feeling.
