Call for Amiga Developers
Kickstarting PowerPC and 68k software development

Sacramento 17th October 2015

As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver quality software content for both PowerPC and 68K Amiga systems A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased announce a new initiative for Amiga software developers.

In the past year we launched the AMIStore app store which has been enthusiastically supported by both Amiga developers and users.

AMIStore performance update:

44 software titles
Customer base ~700
Over 2200 paid transactions

……..and growing month on month

We have also purchased many Classic and Next-Generation AmigaOS titles as well as funding the development of several new applications and utilities. As part of this drive to improve the amount and quality of Amiga software we have created a dedicated SVN resource for all developers working on our applications. We have also implemented a Mantis bug tracker together with a developer mailing list and Wiki to aid software development. We now have 14 developers engaged in paid development work on 23 software projects. However, we are keen to expand and accelerate our software development effort to create new applications and utilities for the PowerPC and 68k platforms.

Call for Amiga Developers
We are looking for experienced Amiga developers to work on our existing applications and create new content for both the 68k and PowerPC platforms. If you are an existing or former Amiga developer and want to help create new software applications for the 68k or PowerPC platform please visit:

I think that for all the talk of supporting all camps there has been very very little to show for it. MorphOS on the X5000 comes to mind but that's about it. They said they would consider porting PPaint to AROS and MorphOS but then nothing. Not even a poll to see if enough people are interested. If you plan to support all camps, then do so. If not, don't make such promises. My 2 cents.

@Yasu

While I have no idea about the actual situation workload wise and how much they have to balance
Amiga development vs a "real job", I can see that time is a scarse resource.
Ssolie was quite frank about that; getting home from their paying job and allocating as much time as possible to their fun hobby aka Amiga development.
Im sure quite a few of them would LOVE to spend all their time developing for the OS, hardware driver support and versions for all platforms.
Once you have to pay the rent, mortgage, loan etc you realise that you better hold on to your paying job just a bit longer

Take Trevors comment about Prisma Soundcard; hardware done, but Matthew keeps tweaking the software side. I have no idea how many projects Matthew is working on, but I have no problem understanding that days, weeks and months passes by quickly.

If time is a scarse resource, you tend to focus your efforts, and the focal point of AeonKit has been AOS.

That is pretty much understood. But considering that when one MorphOS programmer offered to port PPaint for free he got the cold shoulder, so my concern is not at ease yet.

Yasu, alternatively everyone can do the same. Producing / buying exclusives.
Depending on success you could discuss a exchange later on.
Like app a for app b.
You can't force anyone to cooperate but you can learn to be patient and some problems disappear by time.

Of course they try to make os4 and so the hardware more attractive. This is ok imho

Great! Keep going Amiga! There are a lot of talented Amigapeople around. Just finishing a humour sign with DPV and then music and then connecting a game with the serial..

Waiting for the Good Golden Years again as many;)

I have no problem with them being AmigaOS 4 exclusive. I have a problem that they claim they want to support all camps if they really don't.

I would say it this way... if you want to develop cross-platform it is a kind of compromise, you can only support what is available everywhere. The more you use specific features of a platform (including GUI technology) the more difficult is porting. Also even common parts of the API are similar but not identical so when you do not know the differences or are not interested in it then porting also becomes difficult. A-eon is mainly interested in OS4, Amigakit in OS 3.X and 4.X for commercial reasons. Aros (including 68k) and MorphOS have differences compared to 3.x and 4.X and would need additional work (means money) to be supported so it might be a economic and strategic decision not to support it. But then they should simply leave it out of their press releases.

Does this include MorphOS application development as well if a developer wants to work on both platforms?

@phoenixkonsole

nice!
I really think that some sort of fusion/exchange from the 2 stores apps was a really good idea!

More apps/devs more choice!

That's my point: they say it a lot, but doesn't really do much to show it. Like porting AmiStore to MorphOS and AROS or give the community some ways to get their softwares ported. So for me it sounds like "Yes, of course we want to support everything, but we are not actually gonna do it."

On the other hand, we get mos developers bragging about their superior apps that os4 users will never have. The road goes both ways, funny how that works...

How is their "bragging" relevant here? I can't remember any any of them claiming to support all the NG platforms, but not actually doing it.

@Yasu

Sigh.

For years people complained nothing was ever done or communicated.

Now, that things happens and are communicated, we have to nitpick on every little detail.

Yes never wanted to try both others as they are so "Put Your words here;)"

A hammer would do the job too or co-operate so all will earn more.

Yes? You want a discussion about Aros?

We can have that... (even if it is senseless)
