Why? I don't want to use windows or mac so why would I want to use a huge program to do exactly the same as opening the prefs drawer?

If it's an experiment to see if you could do it fine. now go and rewrite it to be something useful, eg. add tabs, add a prefs file to define a tab title and contents, as many times as needed,

As most users here seem to be gamers one use could be to turn it into a games launcher for example where the user can have tabs for different style games, and run their current favourites quickly and easily.

As it would use a prefs file it's up to the use to decide whet they use it for, how many tabs, what types of programs etc., much more useful than yet another prefs clone from another OS.

@Marko
I like that all Prefs are sorted by category.
I use exclusively my OS4 system for all my needs, therefore I want all the best for it, never mind if it's an idea coming from another OS.
To conclude, thank you to be productive

This prefs app is clearly inspired by Mac not Windows, windows 10 prefs are quite a big mess

Idea for the app - would be possible sort the pres in categories by importance or frequency of use and not just by alphabets?

The real issue is why there are so many overlapping and redundant prefs programs in OS4. Screens, Screenmode, Picasso96Mode and Overscan could and should all be in one Screen prefs program for example. WBPattern and Workbench should be merged. I understand all this is on "to-do" for the OS4 team, but it an example of something that could rather be done as open source project by volunteers outside of the core OS team.

Some facts:

- A., the MorphOS Prefs has dual layout, the MUI-Prefs style list view was the original, already available in versions 1.x, the newer icon grid system was inspired by Mac OS X indeed, and introduced in MorphOS 2.0.

- B., MorphOS still introduced the unified prefs concept into Amiga-like systems very early (over a decade ago). This fact was later touted as a "proof" that MorphOS is not "real true" Amiga by fans of another system, because apparently for that you need standalone icons in your Prefs drawer. Hence the bitter reaction to this, from MorphOS guys, I guess.

- C., The MorphOS preferences Application is not simply a front-end to what you have in your Prefs drawer, but a true "plugin-able" framework, with the individual Prefs pages serving as "plugins".

- D., this is not even a new application, just the *NEW VERSION* of an application from 2010-2011 (if I get it right), but some seems to have missed this fact. (Too busy trolling, apparently.)

- E., Why have a problem if others have a choice on their system?

(BTW, special kudos to the troll who sneaked in a screenshot of the MorphOS Prefs to the "snapshots" section of this Application on OS4Depot. Nice job.)

Since this seems to be a thread for posting screenshots of preferences/settings windows that copy Mac OS X I guess it's OK if I add a screenshot of the Ubuntu 14.04 System Settings window to the mix...

I really don't understand the attack and negativity here. If you want use it, if you don't then don't download it, simple as that.

I fully agree Phantom, and thanks for the app ^^

I was about to post the same. Choice and diversity is always a good thing, espesially in regards to AOS where development is much needed.

Yes, we need drivers to fully support PPC hardware, but should the slow development of those prohibit the development of other apps/programs/enhancements?

Sounds very rigid and narrowminded.

@Marko

Great program.

I really hate the messy preference folder under AOS and this solves this.
Good work!

I mean if it's one part of the system that hasn't aged gracefully apart from the dog-old Workbench it's the prefs system. I really don't understand why some are hostile agains some new thinking when it becomes a lot better for the user experience.

@Severin and others..

Ok, I admit I was grumpy, but honestly the program has so much potential with a few changes and is in my personal oppinion, a waste of space, it does nothing - actually less - that spending a minute snapshotting icons where you want them in the prefs window. It doesn't support windows icon scalling. It has no support for third party prefs programs which are usually used the most apart from the ability to open yours prefs drawer to find them. It has paths that are hard coded instead of assigned as they should be. eg. 'sys:prefs/env-archive/sys/' instead of the correct 'env:sys/'. It puts the icons into mac os preferred order. Letting crapple dictate how things should look on my amiag? NEVER!. ahem... *cough* *cough* 1... 2... 3... ok, I've calmed down...

ok. for those lazy sods that never clean up their prefs drawer or are used to using macs then preferences is fine apart from the bloat, hate the hollywood bloat.... I could be so much more though, 95% of the work is already there, it just needs a little to make it multipurpose. being able to call it from amidock or similar with a specific settings file would make it very useful. it would be like a group window in dopus5.

/me crawls back under his rock.

@Severin

"support for third party prefs programs"

Actually that is next up on the TODO list since some time, plus some tooltypes, and also getting rid of the info datatype requirement. Had to take care of the more important stuff first before getting into customization.

PS: I don't like Mac:s either and especially crApple and all their iStuff

@Severin

May I ask, can you post a screenshot of your Prefs drawer? I'm curious about what kind 3rd-party prefs programs you have among other things.

Funny - OS4 mimicking MorphOS even more.
If you want to have it the MorphOS-style better use the original. Saves a lot of treouble and work.

@ Marko

Since my A1000 days I've never once put any 3rd party prefs in my main sys/prefs as I prefer to keep my main sys folder as clean as possible

@ Zylesea

glad you like MorphOS. Wish we can all be using/developing one AmigaNG OS to save time/effort porting stuff etc.
