software OS4   software OS4 : Enhancer Software Released On AMIStore (OS4)
   posted by amigakit on 1-May-2016 20:50:09 (29187 reads)
Enhancer Software Released On AMIStore
Cardiff, May 1st 2016

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce that the new Enhancer Software has been released on AMIStore App Store for OS 4. The Enhancer Software is a collection of utilities, commodities, classes, datatypes and libraries with the aim of enhancing the AmigaOS experience. It is the result of about nine months worth of hard work by the AmigaDeveloper.com Team.

The Enhancer Software contains the debut pre-release version of Warp3D Nova and there will be free updates for Enhancer Software users as Nova gets updated over the coming months.

X-Dock is a new feature rich docking system. It makes it's public debut on the Enhancer Software.

MultiEdit is a new tabbed text editor included in the package with many other features.

Multiviewer, the datatype viewer gets an upgrade to version 2.2, adding new features such as image thumbnails and much more. It now uses the new Shared Image Class and InfoWindow Class.

Ringhio Notifications has had many internal updates over the last few months to bring it to version 53.53. It now features notification sound, colourwheel support, individual app configuration plus lots of bug fixes over the old version bundled in OS4.

TuneNet has been updated as a result of user feedback and requests. The User Interface now supports 4.1 FE features and our new classes such as InfoWindow Class and ProgressBar Gadget Class. The new version is exclusively included.

ClipViewer also makes it's debut. This is a new Clipboard manager which has integration with other applications in the Enhancer Software.

Exchanger is a new commodity and application manager which gives external control of running applications and commodities, including: showing or hiding the program GUI, shutting the program down, displaying the Workbench information requester for the particular program, enabling and disabling commodities.

The Enhancer Software package is available to purchase as two versions. A Standard edition containing the RadeonHD v1 driver and the CANDI Special Edition with four animated Workbench backgrounds, and a Plus Edition which includes the RadeonHD v2 driver with composite video support together with the full CANDI package.

Many of the applications on the Enhancer Software use the new gadgets and classes that have been written from the ground up to give extra functionality to the apps they serve. InfoWindow Class provides a better way of displaying Information and About windows and is utilised with most applications in the Enhancer Software. Similarly, the new Shared Image Class is used by MultiViewer and ClipViewer.

We are also pleased to have licenced Joerg Strohmayer's Amiga software for the Enhancer Software including new versions of SmartFileSystem, AmiDVD, PartitionWizard and DiskCache Library.

As a programmer, are we allowed to distribute the new classes with our program? If not, then whats the point of buying?

In the first instance the classes are used by Enhancer components.

I think Matthew mentioned the possibilty to negotiate a licence to distribute withoyur own software in a coment above, so contact Matthew to discuss that.

If so, good, but just another thing to be installed that should be part of the OS.

Just how can third party classses automatically become part of the OS?

Based on your question to various coding fora, you're activley learning to develope using reaction/BOOPSI at the moment, whilst you write your application, at some point you are going to take the next step an write a BOOPSI class your self, you might choose to release that as a stand alone 'product' on os4depot, should that prove useful to another dev, should it magically become "part of the OS" ?

We would very much like coders to take part of the new classes and gadgets in their own work on AmigaOS 3 or AmigaOS 4. Please get in touch so we can help with your development project.

@broadblues:

ice.

Did you also change those hard to reach menu shortcut keys, BTW?

Best regards,

Niels

If you mean the ones I coppied from MultiView, then no I've left them as they were, for compabilty, if they were impossible for a certain language I hope translators might have localised them.

Right at the moment I can't remeber which they were and whether they are localised in MultiView.

@AmigaKit

Trevor "content content content", yes but we need new developers. Then there's the wiki, but it's not very digest IMO. How about having a dev or a dev team to write a introductionnary book to Amiga OS 4.x programming. (3.x already exist).
Maybe something like "Mastering Amiga C book."
You even may buy the right of an AmigaOS 3.x book and updated it to 4.x so you don't start from scratch, isn't Paul Overaa British :)

Put your good Amiga C book here :

No, they don't. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Andy getting payment - good guy, good results - but he doesn't need payment - since for him, it's just a hobby. The party that needs payment is you.

Not that I have a problem with that, I just appreciate precision.

I beg to differ.

Regardless of whether Andy really actually needs the money, I think it's important ... I think this entire community needs him to get paid, as in, what this community desperately needs, is a somewhat sound economic system.

Evert

Andy and the others of course

@jorit2

you cannot earn money with thousand users and by far for sure not everyone interested to buy something

Games today are written using cross-platform tools supporting different relevant platforms including mobile devices

applications are of course a problem, GUI toolkits from amiga world are of course not available on other platforms. One chance would be you have a standardized class library and compile for a target using specific GUIs. Getting enough refund from the small and in my view further shrinking community to really pay developers is unrealistic.

to really finance application development the community is too small today (applications for me are not just minor updates to some utilities)

regarding games you could port cross-platform tools (open source) or something like hollywood is progressed so that it becomes competitive here

finally you earn money on android or iOS and additionally offer amiga support. Everything else is unrealistic

People trying to change the situation are infinitely more interesting than those that simply say it can't be changed.

It may be unrealistic to provide enough pay for the developers to make a living on.
And I don't think any developer really expects that anyway.

But me, as a developer, I would not appreciate it if all the earnings, however little that may be, made from my hard work, would go into the pockets of the distributor.

Im just going to add to the whole "paid developers" discussion;

Daytona is coding like a maniac, for peanuts compared to the hours he puts in.
But as he puts it himself, it motivates him that the income from Amiga atleast covers the cost of smokes and coffe while coding.

Point is, a few bucks is better than none. And if the money we talk about is so meager, why do we complain over a token fee for a program?

Back in the days (80-90s) i couldnt afford to pay for the programs/games I used. Today I can afford my hobby to a certain extent and make it a point to pay for if requested.
I really dont see the problem.

Take Vampire for A600. Cheap in amiga terms, but on a mainstream scale, expensive due to low performance. I see very few, if any, complains about that. As it should be.

The same way other 3rd party software like SFS, SGrab, RAWBInfo etc. became part of the OS?

AFAIK, neither SGrab nor SFS are "part of the OS", they were just included as contributions on one or more releases as extra goodies, more or less integrated in the OS.

I believe RAWBInfo might by now be considered truly part of the OS, but it started in the same way back in the 3.x days, as a contribution. And it is still "simply" a commodity which you can choose not to run, and you will have the classic WB Info requesters instead.

Best regards,

Niels

Translators should *never* be changing menu shortcut keys, it's annoying and potentially dangerous, since you use them blindly possibly without realising you are one day sitting at a machine with a different locale setting. How about if the R-Amiga F you are used to meaning Find suddenly invokes Format? (Exaggerating for pedagogical reasons here, of course ).

I told you about the keys in question when sending the Danish translation of MultiViewer to Matthew and you. I'll dig up the correspondance and mail you directly.

Oh, and of course I'm going to get the pack, but I'm waiting for the CD version. Hopefully the payment to you authors is the same regardless of the medium.

Best regards,

Niels

@all
Everything what help developers to still do something on amiga is kind of ok. All that new software cost a lot more than just some funts. So asking for something for free, like "why i should buy again something if i buy it standalone" - you can not buy it, then no one will write anything new for you :) Only classes probably can be exception..

@amigakit
As for classes, probably they should be released together with SDK's somehwre on os4depot for all the developers who want to use it. So, any user can download them for free, and any author can point out in them as well. Because if make classes for private use, it will only mean, no one else except ppls who in dev team will use them.

Writing mails, asking "please can i use your new clasees, give me SDK, should i sign agreement?" too boring and probably non-go, and 3d party devs will just skip those classes.

But, if classes done for private use in first place, then why not. Just then there no needs to mention them at all :)

And when you will buy os4 righs, so all that gragmentation mambo-jambo stops ?:))

@all
Anyone who buy it and already download : did all of this contain change_logs ? I.e. what exactly was changed in sfs, tunent, amidvd, ringion and partition wizzard ?
