Software News   Software News : NetSurf 3.6 web browser released!
   posted by Chris_Y on 20-Nov-2016 14:45:24 (5262 reads)
NetSurf is a small fast web browser for AmigaOS and other platforms.

NetSurf 3.6 is primarily a bugfix release. It contains several fixes and clean-ups to front end code, as well as supercookie blocking, and certificate chain handling improvements. We recommend all users upgrade to NetSurf 3.6.

Download AmigaOS 4 version

There is also a preview/beta of NetSurf 3.6 for AmigaOS 3.5/9. Assistance is requested to bring this up to the standard of the OS4 build.
Download AmigaOS 3.5/9 version (pending upload approval)

@hotrod
Those look like they are opening formatted for mobile devices, so this is the Media Queries known issue.

@pavlor
Please take discussion of the SDL version to the forum, rather than using my news item. I'm happy to hear of relative merits of each and where things can be improved (I know there is lots of room for improvement, my OS3 build was supposed to be a quick fix to get others interested in taking it forward, I'm spending minimal time on it), but that's better done in a dedicated thread rather than causing confusion here.

@Chris_Y:

Expect demand for the OS3 version to increase over the next few months. It looks like more batches of Vampires (500 and 600) will be shipping in the near future.

Netsurf doesn't work with Vampire.

There are new compiles of these

http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/renderlib301
http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/guigfxlib_nofpu

So in theory Netsurf should work now, it works with those libraries and WinUAE configured 68040 and NO fpu. But it still doesn't work with Vampire. ShK tested it today.

@utri007

It would be useful if somebody could figure out why. I assume it's an instruction set thing?

I don't know is this usefull information, but I have 3 years old Amiga Forever (2013) and Netsurf doesn't work at all with guigfx and render libraries. New / Current version of WinUAE works just fine.

@utri007

It suggests there's some CPU instruction that was wrong on the old UAE, and is wrong on Vampire (not necessarily the same one). Because it's not a real 68k it's likely there's some obscure instruction or sequence which isn't doing exactly what it is supposed to. It's something that could probably be fixed easily if somebody can work out what the broken instruction is. Different GCC version or options may well work around it, but (a) no newer GCC exists for Amiga 68k, and (b) I don't know which options will help and can't test here.
