Announcement   Announcement : New Screenshots of OS4 released
posted by _Steve_ on 22-Nov-2002 16:19:00 (5710 reads)
Hyperion have released several new screenshots from OS4 on Amiga Incs website.

The new screenshots are designed to show the scope for configuring the look and feel of the WB environment. While the colour schemes may not be to your tastes, they are not designed to show what the final "theme" will look like, but meerely the kinds of changes you as a user of the OS/WB can perform.

Update: New screenshots can be found at our Specials section.

Quite. They are promissing indeed. Granted people keep saying they
look like OS3.9 + hacks, but you have to consider that the WB will
look like OS3.9 for now. The hacks though are no longer hacks, so the
system should be a heap more stable that at present with all these
extra patches and hacks running.

Ow. My eyes are bleeding.

I have to say, that is *ugly!*

I'm glad to see it's shaping up and I'm looking forwards to release, but do they have a colourblind 13-year-old as a graphics scheme designer? It's a mess!

Less is more, guys. Go look at some NeXTstep screenshots, go play with MacOS X, then come back and try again with a theme that's a bit less /lary!/

And pretty outdated... A bit more fresh screenshots would be nice.

I cant help myself it looks like the next wind is going to blow it away. Please have a look at QNX, which for me feels far more robust. And in os 4 most option windows show up too much detail, too much controls and switches and they are too narrow packed. So for anyone who is not used to it, this has a disturbing effect. Surely there can be done some rearrangement, or at least some more pixels space between text lines or here and there. please have a look at qnx for example. There is much more free areas on the screen. (As I know by experience with gui programming, I know that allowing the user to adjust spacing will not properly solve the problem. its more a matter of art-feeling and the golden section)

Though, for artists that need every pixel for themselfes, the slim windows are great encouragement.

Nevertheless I want to have amiga os 4. Not because of its look but because of knowing what is inside!

@PseudoDOS

Yes im sure they will sort out the final default look that does not look so patchwork.

I do like the QNX look, not to bland, not to over the top.

Where do we go to see QNX?
An important thing is that the GUI works well. Over the years, we've all had to rely on hacks to complete the Amiga desktop. It would be nice to have it all built into OS-4.
And PseudoDOS is right. Proper visual design is extremely important. Apple makes a science of the GUI, and we should learn from them. It gives the user a feeling of confidence.
