-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emotion Mediaplayer:

Emotion is a powerful multimedia player specially developed for AmigaOS 4.x. The easy-to-usebewusste interface, deliberate limitation to required basic functions, as well as optimization on operating system functions, makes Emotion to a software that integrates perfectly into the current AmigaOS.

The use of FFMpeg as subsystem for video and audio decoding (through AmigaOS specific shared libraries) allows emotion to access proven and powerful technologies in the background. Due to the Reaction based interface in combination with optimized operating system functions and FFMpeg as a decoder, Emotion understands itself as its own interpretation of a multimedia player which is not just a port of existing open source projects but tries to connect tried and tested technologies with the ecosystem of AmigaOS.

Emotion looks like an AmigaOS software, works like a … it’s an AmigaOS software!

Features:
– Compositing based video scaling on RadeonHD graphics cards
– YUV video acceleration (RadeonHD 2.0)
– Video overlay (PIP) on Radeon 9xxx graphics cards
– Software rendering, on classic Amiga and emulation
– Supports local video files and web streams
– Fullscreen, window und borderless mode
– recent list, for reopen media files
– Supports video subtitles and multiple audio tracks
– Optimization for Altivec
– Enable / disable video filters (on compositing based graphics cards)
– FFMpeg based video decoding, optimized for the most used codecs
– easy-to-use Reaction based GUI, AISS Icons, AmigaOS 4.1 F.E. context menu
– Conscious focus on basic functions and optimization for AmigaOS
– ARexx port
– Manual and automatic Frameskip

System requirements:
– Amiga or compatible Computer with AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition (Update 1 recommended)
– Graphics card: ATI Radeon 9xxx, ATI RadeonHD (RadeonHD Driver V2.0 recommended)
– Executable in software mode also without Radeon Karte (classic or Emulation)

Before buying, please test the demoversion extensively!

@zzd10h: Beside the priority, maybe you can send us such a video snippet that we try it and look what happens (email on our website or in the Emotion ReadMe).

@AmigaKit

Will you thank everyone who says that he has just bought something on AmiStore ?

If yes, I wonder why the second message of this news' comments did not receive any thank you.

Either you thank everyone in general (as did imagodespira) or you'll have to mention everyone, otherwise it's unfair.

(I think you should just say thank to "all those who bought from Amistore").

Nice !

Would like to see :

Play image sequence / export
Image save

Option for video time remaining
Option for time finished eg Movie will finish at 12.07.

Optional overlay of Tagged info EG IMDB info.

X5000 should be playing 4k resolution easily.

What is CPU / GPU usage play back 720p ?

CLI options to eg playback at 3 mins, loop after 10 seconds

There is no OS4 system able to play 4k movie. Emotion cannot make use of GPU decoding since there is no driver for it at the moment. And OS4 doesn't support Multi-CPU neither (which would help decoding).

On X1000 playing a 720 movie can sometimes reach 100% of CPU usage (using YUV and AltiVec).

Multi-CPU ... would help decoding

It might make very little difference. In general you need to decode one frame, before you can decode the next, because the each frame is described as differences from the previous one. (There are OCCASIONAL "key frames" that don't rely on previous frames, but they might be very widely spaced.)

About all you could be sure of is decoding audio & video on separate cores. Which would help, but perhaps not that much when decoding (say) 4k video massively outweighs decoding audio.

GPU decoding would give a better speed-up...

I suppose the only way multi-core could really benefit video decoding is if multiple cores could work on decoding a single frame... I don't know enough to know if that's possible (without the overhead of communication between cores wiping-out any gain from splitting the work load). GPUs are inherantly designed for splitting a task into many small units, so easier for them to benefit from massive parallism (never mind they can contain specialised hardware for decoding video, which CPUs do not really).

Emotion has been a good purchase. The playback seems slower than in DvPlayer on my Sam440ep-flex, but it's good to have a recent ffmpeg under the hood and a native interface (compared to DvPlayer's silly skinned GUI).

@Trixie

I usually aggree with everything you say but why take a shot at DVPlayer? I love that player with skins and all. I think Emotion is really nice but I hope that DVPlayer will still be around, he's put lots of work in that player and it's really nice IMHO.

@hotrod

I'm not really taking a shot; I do like DvPlayer (bought it twice, actually) but its GUI leaves something to be desired. Skinned interfaces are fine as long as you can revert to a non-skinned, standard system GUI. With DvPlayer you can't AFAIK, and the default skin looks dated.

Still, the program may get updated at some point; do I remember correctly that A-EON has bought the rights from the original author?

@Trixie

I don't know the status of DVPlayer at all but having a non-skinned GUI would make it even better, I agree. I use the OS 4 SE skin which is a bit nicer than the default IMO.

I tried Emotion and like it a lot as well. Wouldn't mind having both developed.
