@Leo

What benefit to Amiga Inc OR Hyperion to release ROM code?

Apple have released classic versions of their OS so people can restore and "use" old Apple hardware but not the ROM codes.

Some profit must be made if any new hardware is to be produced,unless you envision Amiga=Linux.
Except Amiga source code has an owner and is not public.

Hyperion can now release AmigaOS for Macs or x86 or ARM or consoles or ?

By this time next year I expect Amigaverse will be much expanded!

This applies to 4.x and above so it means AmigaOS belongs to Hyperion now. It's been sometime since we've had great news as this ;)

I'd still like to know if AInc. got anything in return though...

There's no nothing to be produced in order to release the roms for free...

Why do you think free adventures games are released for free ? Since there's no money to be made ? Why do you think Amstrad roms were released ? Why do you think Mac roms were released (including full system 7.5... but nevermind) ?

Right now, Amiga emulation is difficult. Either you have to dump your own rom, or buy some something from the Internet. Having ROM released for free would make the emulation a lot more easier and accessible... And would spread the Amiga even more. Bringing old memories back,...

Not to mention it would mean Amiga can do something good... Seeing what hapenned in the past, it wouldn't be that bad for their image...

I'm not envisioning Linux. I'm envisioning something to spread the Amiga.

These Roms have been released 22 (!!!) years ago (for kickstart 1.3). There's no reason not to release it for free right now...

It seems that AmigaOS 3.1 (and below) is still owned by Amiga Inc. (or whatever company, KMOS, Amino, you name it), but not Hyperion Entertainment?

Since it sounds like they did not even have the sources for that it would seem to hardly matter in real world terms IMHO.

This would mean others could get a license from Amiga Inc. using AOS3.1 and develop their own Amiga as long as it doesn't use the Name AmigaOS.

That possibility has been ruled out.

Than you should update the statement on the Hyperion web site, it says something different.

@Arko

We don't need to know the exact wording on the agreement to know that AmigaOS4.x development has been secured.If the statements on the press release weren't true i'm sure Ainc would've stepped in to deny/confirm anything.

Within the framework of the settlement agreement Hyperion is granted an exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to AmigaOS 3.1 in order to use, develop, modify, commercialize, distribute and market AmigaOS 4.x (and subsequent versions of AmigaOS including without limitation AmigaOS 5) in any form, on any medium and for any current or future hardware platform under the exclusive trademark “AmigaOS” (Amiga operating system) and using other associated trademarks (such as the “BoingBall” logo).

Read it over and over again until it starts to sink in.

Hyperion and Cloanto have an excellent relationship and in any event the settlement agreement does not affect Cloanto's rights.

I did not claimed anything else, it was just a different wording about the rights of AOS3.1

It is nice for your help to convince Hyperionmp about his error concerning the right on AOS3.1. So Amiga Inc. is still alowed to distribute packages containing AOS3.1

Amiga inc has no money to pay for lawyers, no money to pay for taxes, they don't even declare Tax statements and the IRS is on their heels (all this while their financier and puppet master died last January) and we are still talking about them as if they are going to do this or that?

My guess is that the only thing they will do is disappear into oblivion.

I hope you were joking about that... (general consensus here is that India was a gigantic Hoax all along)

@Al4

Given that today's "Current openings" at Amiga Developments India are exactly the same as the "Current openings" back in November 2006, I would say it's either a shell company (OMG NO WAY!), or they have a real recruitment problem!
