Nah, nothing of the sort.
The only people this will confuse is people who aren't really Amiga users at all (i.e. think that any machine with an "Amiga" sticker on it is an Amiga), and the occasional moderator at Amiga.org (who seem to have been completely suckered into this "Look! It's an Amiga! It says so on the label and everything!" mindset).
For the rest of us it will make no difference. I certainly don't hear Hyperion or my AmigaOS 4 machines gasping their dying breaths, anyway. |

True, but this week was pretty sad to me when I was in an IRC channel which I am known for being an Amiga fan, and had some dude ask me "why do you like Amiga? they make those ####ty Android tablets? A Galaxy is far better".
This guy was American and in his 20s so had no clue of the Amiga heritage or name, basically he thought the whole time I've been into Amigas, I've just liked some rebadged Chinese budget PCs or tablets.
To a generation now Amiga will be a name they look at like ALBA, Technika, NOK or other supermarket own-branded cheap Chinese low-quality hardware. That's really heartbreaking.

If says Samsung or Amiga on my monitor does not make any difference to me, the some Samsung is probably better.
Android phone whit Amiga name how weird is that, noting that reminds my about Amiga whit exception of a wallpaper.
OS is not the same. HW is not compatible. Design does not look like Amiga.
The use of Amiga name to sell any product will not work.
Is as dead as Amiga Inc's product Amiga DE(AD). Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 04-Apr-2011 at 05:33 PM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 04-Apr-2011 at 05:31 PM.

You mean your link point out that this was announced back in a month or so ago? The web site and pictures make it morwe likely to me that it will become reality and so is somewhat depressing. If so, then how should this change my conclusion or was there something burried deep in that thread that should illuminate things for me...April fool's joke in February? I have to admit, I did not read that entire thread, so you'll have to be more specific if this was the case I missed something there. _________________ When swimming with sharks, make sure to bring lots of band-aids... |

Ahhh...Ok, so when Pentti Kouri passed on two years ago, his executor decided to make some cash for his beneficiaries by licensing the Amiga brand name and logos to anyone and everyone that wanted it for their products. So it would appear to confirm that Amiga Inc. is a company no more then, at least not an operational one, leaving it to be relgated to a few brands and some IP up for licensing to whomever wants them. Am I correct in my assessment on this? Still pretty sad, IMHO. That is, unless you have some other take on all of this which I have failed to consider...again.

I would think any company for sale would try and make themselves look good to prospective buyers. Whether they do that of their own accord or through advisement from Pluritas, would be an area where I have no knowledge.
Added for those that don't know the names/roles:
Quote:
Question 1.12: Who is Itec and what is their relationship to Amiga, KMOS and you?
Garry: Itec has been an investor in Amiga since the purchase of the assets from Gateway. It remains an investor today. Itec is also the Senior (first place) Secured Creditor of Amiga Inc. |

| I think all these rebadged devices will have the same outcome of this and other similar products we saw in the past: Commodore eVic ...they'll sell dozens

I think C=USA and iContain are being mixed up a bit here. I understand you might think of them in the same fashion, but it's really two different things entirely.
C=USA has already stated that they are to be shipping 20,000 units to brick and mortar stores by end of May. (loose rewording, but close enough) They also intend to open up their online store within hours.
I suppose expressing doubts about them is better expressed in the other thread that concerns them. Then they can respond accordingly.

Stating shipped units is a "typical game" companies do all the time to pump up numbers, and it's a totally different matter from actual sold items. Palm did this a lot before collapsing for example...

So that's 99.999999% of the computer users on the planet that will be confused about the Amiga brand then
THIS IS NOT GOOD NEWS!! Hopefully this will be a huge white elephant and Amiga Inc. will finally self destruct. Sadly, they will again drag the Amiga brand through the mud before their bankruptcy comes into being. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Strange question, maybe you have a problem spelling or counting it, but as far as I know, a produkt with the name Amiga is 100% Amiga.

I'm sure I posted that before. They were shipping before the original announcement was placed on amiganews.de. I see they still use the boing ball on their website, btw.
Months ago I recall people even asking about the TVs. Those, unlike the tablets, could be ordered, but not shipping at that time.

| I had hoped the iContain people faded away and/or not ever got off the ground.
I know some people have a problem with CUSA here, but to me, the iContain situation is much, much worse.
The rent-to-own business as a whole is full of shady, corrupt business practices. If iContain actually became popular, it may tarnish the Amiga brand more so than almost anything else. Think T-shirt scam magnified 100-fold. Or buying a $400 tablet for $2000 over the course of 2 years... and getting it shut-off/repossessed right before the final payment is due.

Sorry bout this guys and gals,
didnt feel the need to start a new thread anymore, and yes as all of you am dissapointed for the most part,
but I have some ultimate questions :
1. If this is successful and reliable, would this then mean that one day Amiga.inc will go to court again to get the AOS?
2. If they won the court case due to being billionare company, would they then proceed to finally use Amiga operating system as their operating system for their products, be it phones, pcs, etc?
3. OR, were it possible Bill McWen would turn around and decide to ACTUALLY help the Amiga OS and once again become a Hyperion partner, via putting HEAPS of moeny into the REAL amiga and not just a rebadged sticker?
4. Were it possible that in future Bill McWen will ask Friedens to do a port of AOS to their tablet and phone range in future, and assist them to do so with funding aid as well as a massive bunch of programmers to program the Amiga way?
5. Final question, is there any chance ANY good could Actually come out of this for the Amiga name?
Thank you for your time and patience Amiga community!
P.S. A personal question, has anyone bought a tablet? If so, what was it like? any unique changes to the Androis OS to make it more amiga like, or was it simply put, ANDROIS OS as we know it?
