Looking at this benchmark I see that some interesting stuff has been achieved .
Be it AmigaOS 4.1 or AmigaOS 4.2
Holy DMA Batman !!!

@Spectre660

I can see "Release 4.1 - Final Edition" and version numbers starting v54 - so it's definitely newer than OS4.1u6.

I suspect something will be announced at AmiWest. There haven't been any updates pushed out by AmiUpdate for ages, which makes me think they are holding them back for a reason.

@Spectre660

1.4Gb/s, nice.

So that's PCIe (v1.0) x6 speed?
I wonder how close it is possible to get x16 speed with real life code...

@Chris_Y

The preview of the next Amiga Future issue has a little bit of information on OS4.1 "Final Edition". Looks like it will have some of the updates originally planned for OS4.2, but will be a paid update albeit far cheaper than 4.1 itself...

Ah, yes. http://www.amigafuture.de/album_pic.php?pic_id=20598
I see the tabbed Shell will finally be here, along with the thumbnail preview WB windows.

I will certainly not pay just for tabbed shell.

@pavlor

29.95 € for a complete OS is too much for you?

I wouldn´t expect full 3D before 4.2. However, there are features I would gladly pay for even more than 30 EUR - like proper support for Z3 RAM.

@Chris_Y

So if there is a Classic release of OS4.1 final for €29.95 then that's great news for people wanting to buy it for use under WinUAE and will address previous complaints over the pricing.

Of course not, it all depends on new features (in comparison to current state of 4.1).

Although I believe Solie will clarify some of this in a few hours at the AmigaOS status report at AmiWest, I presently see some area of confusion here.

Is this update for new users or all users, including those who have paid for AmigaOS4.1 before? (and even for those X1000 owners who have 4.2 included in their purchase cost)

Any idea?

@number6

We may remember from a previous AmiWest talk of a new pricing model for AmigaOS 4.x .
Paid update for those interested in those updates.

@Spectre660

Sure. At that time Solie referred to it as a "subscription model" iirc.

And the user response was not exactly positive, iirc.

My only issue here is that we'll now need a lot of official clarification, given the questions already arising are coming from one page of an article, no?

For reference: some talk about subscription model from 2013

Discussed even earlier in the AmiWest clarification thread from 2012

+ 1, I'm sure (fingers crossed) there will be more 'clarification' at AmiWest this weekend

@klx300r

Sure hope that those X1000 owners who have already paid for 4.2 will not be expected to stump up cash for this holding interim release. Poor sods.
