@Zylesea

Yeah Will be interesting to see what the announcement actually contains as the article is only partially available. I see what they're doing and understand the need to generate revenue, but I thinking keeping the free updates going until 4.2 is released would be a better strategy - from a PR point of view at least.

Me neither

And getting the new Shell with tabs and color options...

@salass00

If AOS 4.1 Final is gonna be 29.95 and AOS 4.2 is gonna be cheaper than current 4.1 (even if only as an upgrade price for those already running 4.1 Final) than I'll gladly pay for all of that :)

Hyperion has done a lot to deserve some trust regarding their promises..

Well, so much for trust. SSolie said his plan is to keep updates til 4.2 free ( http://www.amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=36346&forum=14#680048 ) and now there's the announcement of another paid 4.1 update.
That surely earns trust and respect.

@Zylesea

He said that that's his *plan*, not that he promised it. Plus AFAIK ssolie is not the (only) one who rules all at Hyperion.

Another paid 4.1 update? Which previous 4.1 updates did users need to pay for? The last time I had to pay for the OS was in 2009 when I purchased my Sam. All other subsequent updates were free of charge.

Paying 30 quid after five years of being given stuff for free? Yeah, big deal. As if OS developers grew money on trees, gumbo.

Personally I am close to glad that it costs money. Didn't people here on Amigaworld.net wonder where Hyperion get their fundings from these days? I would much rather pay for an update than see Hyperion go bust.

@Zylesea

As I understand it AmigaOS4.1 Final is on CD/DVD, and contains all previews updates, so you do not need to download etch individually Update 1 to 6 and AmigaUpdate packages.

Creating the CD's, shipping the CD's, creating the manuals, created the 4.1 final update box covers. And after the sales having to ship etch individual package to the customer will all cost Hyperion/ AmigaKit some cash.

If they did not charge money for it, then it would created a lot of debt.

Anyway I'm sure the AmigaUpdate packages wont stop, just because you did not order this one.

@pavlor

You're not just paying to put KingCON to rest. Thought it is a long waited feature. You're paying for all the work put into OS4.1 and below including all updates to it.

Yes bug fixes and missing features like X1000 Audio driver that came late.
but some times you get some major updates like MUI4, so this not written in stone.

No one can predict the future, as soon as some one change one variable, you create a paradox.

Anyway AmigaONE-X1000 users already prepayd for AmigaOS4.2, so I don't understand way there is anything to complain about.

so far i understand mui4 is a contribution that as a neccessary measure accompanies the odyssey webbrowser port to os4 and is done by external volunteers, namely the same people who are maintaining yam.

@NutsAboutAmiga

LOL

Yes you are right

But I discussed with one of the OS developers on a german site where he indicated a paid update in future and a change in update politics

Similar was said by Solie I think (without too much excitement by the potential buyers = AmigaOS user). So from this information base I made the guess about the future.

But we will see and I am not affected anyway because I do not use AmigaOS

Regarding X1000 user... there is no official information yet if they will get it for free or not. Propably yes but up to now we only know one page of a magazine.
