@Signal

If you read what I wrote I did not doubt that the "X"-series are desktops but that PPC desktops in general will get much interest outside the amiga community.

@Niolator

I'd say watch this space. Or rather, another. I'm sure AmiWest will provide clues as to what is coming out and when.

@Niolator

it starts the night of october 24th, although no news announcements will be made until the next day, usually. friday night is awesome: classic hardware being tinkered with until the early hours and copious libations to accompany it.

Looking forward to that. I hope that there will be some streaming from that event.

Bill Borsari (tekmage) always takes up the challenge to stream everything he can from AmiWest. Wish him luck and hope the hotel's bandwidth can handle it.

@ssolie or tekmage

@Niolator said "event" and I'm not clear whether he's referring to Eliyahu's mention of Friday night classic clinic or AmiWest in general from the post.

I've never known AmiWest to cover Friday night with a stream.
That's always been Saturday/Sunday since I've been here.

Are they actually considering this?

@Niolator

ok.

That schedule is usually one of the last things to become set in stone for publishing, due to necessary juggling.
When available I'm sure it will be linked to in the AmiWest thread here.

finally something to agree on.

nearly every post in this thread is speculation, and mostly based on out-right guessing. as soon as the people involved are ready to tell us details, we'll know. until then there's really no point in arguing anything. but, hey, that's not going to stop the 'experts' from chiming in, so....

Amen!

The only bit of info I will volunteer here is that Trevor lost money on the X1000, as the development costs could not be recovered, unless he was able to sell many more (probably thousands) X1000 systems.

He cannot be expected to continue to lose money on every Cyrus+ based system and keep A-Eon in business. He is a generous guy, but not that generous, or stupid (the wife would eventually lower the boom, I would think ).

I have no idea what the prices will be for any of the new Cyrus+ based systems or motherboards alone, but I am not expecting the complete systems to be much less than the X1000 is/was, even though the component costs are lower. This time around I expect Trevor to try to recover his development costs, so he can keep going forward with A-Eon as a company.

Just my 2 cents

I thought you would. That hopefully means it is not too far away.

I read ssolie's answer as:

"Yes, someone does have a clue about when AmigaOS4.2 will be ready to release, and that somebody is ssolie himself."

I see no reason to assume his answer would mean that AmigaOS4.2 is close to being ready for release. We all know how wrong we can be when we make assumptions regarding when Amiga projects will be completed.

I would not read more into ssolie's "Yepper" answer than a simple "Yes" answer to the question given, and that question was, "Anyone got a clue to when AmigaOS 4.2 will be released?"

Of course, I hope that AmigaOS4.2 will be released sooner, rather than later, but nothing I do or say will make it happen one moment sooner.

There is no "they" because Bill does all the work. You could just ask him directly.

You and me both brother.

What I do know is that Hyperion is painfully aware that customers want more major feature releases and sooner. AmiUpdate has been used to fill the void in the mean time with well over 88 updates.

As eliyahu said, Fri night is worth showing up for. All the vendors & club members are free to relax & chat, not so on Sat & Sun. There is nothing to stream other then guys huddled over classic system to fix or ppl chatting at tables having a beer. Just a great start to the show weekend & meet ppl.

And before anyone gets the wrong idea, there is no drinking during the show.

Thanks Ssolie.

"Well over 88 updates?"
Is that 89?

How many of the updates have come directly from Hyperion as opposed to independent developers?
