I think it is time to buy OS 4 and make it open source.

I dont think the license they got from Amiga INC allows that.. Even after winning in court against Amiga INC, they still dont have permission to even port it to another architecture like the x86/x64, which is why they were using ppc until now..

If this news is true then it seems like it really is the end and "Amiga" will only live on through Aros and MorphOS. So I guess only way forward for Trevor now is MOS, Aros or a enitrely different OS.

The settlement mentions successors of Hyperion.

@Tomas

if Trevor would acquire the rights then he has the sources but has still to invest in further development and that would his hobby make even more risky.

Perhaps we will hear something in a not too distant future. At the moment everything is on hold certainly.

It makes more sense to have the hardware* and OS under one roof, such a situation would give him more control over the direction of the OS.

Yes it would. But it also mean to invest "real money" in it. I do not know if he is "crazy" enough to do that

Don't think that should be so easy. AmigaOS 4.x will be still available and continue to be developed. Just another company probably, maybe AEON and Trevor will acquire everything now?

And maybe it would be better to wait before making any conclusions.

@Prober,

Agreed, no jumping to conclusions until more info is available.

I am sorry for whoever may be losing their job, yet I am quite confident that Hyperion employees were not working full time for the company but had other occupations instead.

No surprise with Hyperion's bankruptcy. The company never seemed to have a real business model.

However, sounds like good news for AmigaOS. There's at least a thin chance it will be released from this meaningless ransom and put into better hands, if not open sourced.

guys you really think A-Eon & Amigakit didn't know this was coming for a while now? They have spent alot of time & money getting new hardware and the AmiStore up & running recently and have been saying for a while that they have been working on many 'other' Amiga related projects. Looks like this one yet again came out before they could make a formal announcement

Agreed. Especially A-EON pumping a lot of money into hardware and buying legacy software doesn't make much sense to me if they know that the OS company is going belly up and don't already have a solution to continue OS development. On the other hand, what does make sense in Amiga land?

@klx300r

Well, I hope so, but I would think there are limits to how much Trevor is willing to spend on a "hobby". What happens to the AOS lisence, and 3d support etc.
Hans is/was working on it for AEON. Will that work continue?

Same goes for Personal paint, studiosound, cinema4d etc.

Is Hyperion "assets" even worth aquiring since they worked off a lisence?
And will the whole lisence issue see McBill back on the stage?

Rename this site to AROSworld.net or MorphWorld?

Anyhow, will be intresting to read where AEON goes from here.
