Yup, thats how I read it. it's not so much the paying for it (although it would be better to not have to pay), it's the fact that everyone else now has it and I still don't know when I will get mine. I bought so early because I wanted to get it asap and I have lots of different hardware I could try in it and a fair amount of old software. Like you I thought that Beta Testing was by invatation.
Up to this morning I assumed that I would be getting something any day now. If I had been made aware earlier I would have payed and might have it now.

| Hi All,
I was just a little dissapointed that this is the copy that earlybird users will receive and not the full version of OS4 . I appreciate that updates are available and at some cost an upgrade to the full version is possible. But at the time of purchase , there was no pre relese version and OS4 was a few months away.
Dont get me wrong , I am a loyal Amiga hardware /software supporter and have always paid the price offered . I also appreciate the hard work that both Eyetech and Hyperion have put in.
Im just a little dissapointed Im not getting the full version.
Im off now to play with me copy of OS4 pre

Yes, I must admit that is rather worrying and I hope that Alan will clear this up soon. |
I believe there was some mention from Hyperion(can't remember exactly by who) that the final release of OS4 would be obtained by trading-in pre-release discs, presumably directly to Hyperion. If so, that would explain Eyetech's wording as the PR disc would be the end of their involvement in the process._________________ Who do you serve, and who do you trust? - Galen |

| Eyetech seem to enjoy being awkward and providing as little information as possible, however the link provided earlier in the thread states:
Quote:
The 'Earlybird' systems will also include the rights to receive a free user-release copy of OS4-OEM for the AmigaOne when it is available. . .
we are offering all users who wish to take up this 'Earlybird' offer a free, registered, copy of OS4 for the AmigaOne as soon as it becomes available. |
I do not see how the OS4 Pre (a beta as Eyetech admits in the previous post) could be condsidered the "user-release copy of OS4-OEM".
Eyetech, please stop being so daft and clarify this.
Edit, sorry to be so negative but Eyetech seem to take advantage at every available opportunity. I still think the A1 and OS4 are both good products and I thank Eyetech and Hyperion for getting everything this far. |

| @hyperion (or anyone who can answer)
Okay, I'm a bit confused now. Am I an earlybird or a developer?
I don't remember getting a discount, I paid 587.50 for the motherboard (G4). Does this mean I'm an earlybird?

Now that does sound rather crazy, What on earth would they want to do with the disks if we were to return them, melt them down and make plant pots ?

I just feel I did everything right for my situation and am getting shafted.
(Sorry, quote buttons or smileys don't work in IBrowse!)
I sympathise completely. It does seem like a crazy situation.

I've no idea what they'd do with them, but it would be a relatively fool-proof way of making sure only those who've paid for an OS4.0 licence actually get a copy of OS4 final. I do put some credence in this idea, simply because it's bizzare and and has a couple of obvious points where it could descend into chaos - much like the current pre-release roll out system.
It's a shame the rollout of OS4, both PR and final, seems to be surrounded by so much uncertainty. I really feel for the people with 'developer' boards - it should have been made plain a long time ago that they were not getting the PR without paying for it and enduring an extra delay. Frankly, I'm astonished at their restraint. In their position I'd be going bezerk.
Similar uncertainty affects the few people like me who bought used A1s. I've no idea if Eyetech have sent the PR CD to me (as I requested, twice) or to the original owner, of if a disc has been sent at all.
All this needs to be clarified urgently to prevent any bad feeling. _________________ Who do you serve, and who do you trust? - Galen |

| @tafka Yep, sounds like you ordered an earlybird mobo (like me). I think most of the developer boards Eyetech sold were the A1SE boards.

Hi LordArt,
You know what's frustrating??
We're in the "Information Age", and yet, there seems to be a dearth of info, all 'round!
It takes ALOT of money to do ANYTHING!
Before they sell us a product, they spent alot, and the second after they earn some from "you", they keep spending money till the next person comes along. There's no end to expenses......
We have to decide, "Is this worth it?", to continue, that is.....my opinion is, I'll go the distance. This has probably never been done before, and it's one of the most worthwhile things one may ever do, too.
Soldier on, everybody, we're almost there! |

| Could we have some information now about what is being done about the problem of certain people not currently having the right to run OS4 on their AmigaOne motherboards.
The waiting is one thing but I am now starting to lose patience with being kept in the dark as if I don't matter now.
I understand that Alan is probably very busy, but we are supposed to be his customers and we should at least be kept informed about the situation (and perhaps not at the last minute).
If I don't know what I am supposed to do about getting hold of OS4 by the end of today I'll have to wait until next weekend as I don't have access to the internet during the week.
Rob
Starting to feel a little cheesed off.

If you have a developer board, following the instructions in Alan's post wouldn't be a bad place to start.

There are supposed to be relatively few of us, you'd think it would take a relatively short time to get back to us. The longer we have to wait the more alienated I feel. I've even PM'd Eyetech now but if they don't come online it is no good.
At least we are alone in this I suppose. |

I've read your comments and posted what I think will be helpful responses over in the AmigaOne Owners forum under the topic 'OS4-PR/OS4-OEM status'
Hope this helps
