@Moxee

Well, the idea was "if you like AmigaOS4.1, for sure you want to enjoy it, as well as the OS4 applications, in a more comfortable environment "

But English is not my native language, there should be more appropriate words to explain the idea.

Well done but who cares for the old junk?

I think that it's far more important that Hyperion Entertainment (snip)

It seems that it was mainly AmigaKit funding OS4.1 for Classics, and I don't think that Hyperion is going to say no to someone willing to pay them

As i read on hyperion site:

Quote:

AmigaOS 4.1 will be distributed world-wide by AmigaKit LLC and will be available from your local dealer very soon. AmigaKit was also instrumental in funding the AmigaOS 4.1 update for the Classics.

Dunno of course how big was funding, but still if they mention that, then it was big enough to mention.

Now if only AmigaKit funded some PPC accelerators given their prices on eBay...

It's funny how you always jump on someones comment regarding information that used to be internal only

@all who think Hyp wastes time on OS4 Classic

As far as I've heard somewhere the Classic development is done a lot by Classic loving volunteers and therefore doesn't steal much time from the main OS4 development for Sam460 and X1000...

Well, of course the kernel updates and new functionality was done by Hyperion, and other OS4 programmers worked on other component updates. Some of those updates benefit all platforms and you will see the result of that in Update 3.

The kernel improvements also do apply to some extent to all platforms, too.

So it is fair to say it took some time to develop for Classic, yes, but all platforms will benefit from (some) of those improvements. Some very important improvements.

But at the end of the day nothing was "delayed" because of AmigaOS 4.1 Classic development.

And that a classic port can be useful also for find bugs and fix it

Yes. Especially low-memory situations stability should be much better now.

Ok, that doesn't affect most A1/SAM users on a daily basis, but it can happen.

For Classic users it's more important due to the lower memory footprint.

Also other optimizations that were made to gain more speed for Classic will benefit A1/SAM/X1000 users.

@HammerD

Thanks a lot for amikit for giving money to Hyperion for the classic update.

I have one question about a possible link with clasic and NG version:

- Does the improvements made on the classic version will help the compatibility of old classic programs with the NG version ?

For example the classic audio Hardware, some 68k programs who often crash at start or on exit only (aminetRadio) because verry strict Petunia, the Payback game, etc....

I don't know for sure but I don't think so. You can blacklist apps from petunia using the compatibility prefs app or you can turn off petunia entirely by commenting it out from kicklayout.

Again, to those that think it is a "mistake" to keep the "Classic" AOS, here is one person that is *guaranteed* to buy Amiga OS classic 4.1 +.

As a "hobby" OS for me, this is great and a must buy. I do agree that I wish they would come up with new acccelerators. I understand that such things would compete with the X1000 and the SAM boards, but I would certainly pick one up if it had the right level of power.

While it isint for everyone, I do like "souping up" the old harware to run in a more up-to-date fashion.

i hope sometime in the future there's also Prelude sound card driver & as i said before in other forums more software control to speed up some parts of the system Bvision being one of them if it can be proved to have a advantage.

@Hyperionmp

Great news, I just wonder what PPC and speed is needed for OS4.1 to be enjoyable on Classic (suspect it's been optimized to demand less CPU power but still a 603e @ 160Mhz can't be enough for a good experience right)?

@Brian

It will depend on the application you run, The OS will most likely run fin as long as you have all the recommended hardware upgrades.

(SIL+ Radeon + Elbox PCI expansion bus + Extra RAM)

@Stephen_Robinson

The "materials" are "available now". So we know at least the code is finished and they will next proceed with the steps required to make the commercial distribution for sale.

@delshay

You can either edit the kickstart file p96config and uncomment the Overclock=YES line
or add it to the tooltypes on DEVS:Monitors/CVision

You'll also need to add the MemoryClock=XX Tooltype also where XX is speed in Mhz IIRC**

**You will need have to experiment. I don't have a BVISION anymore.
I dont know if 4.X supports these p96 tooltypes as I've not tried to use them.
