Since I can't join Amigans.net, I'll have to ask a question here about a thread there. Can you finish one part of the Libre Office package, like the word processor, and release it, or do you have to finish the whole package at once?

@thinkchip

I read a discussion on morphzone about that and they planned to port it application by application starting with the word processor. So it is propably possible. But I do not know what Trevor (who pays for the port to AmigaOS) has planned.

@thread

Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to port each application? Yes, I know that each application would probably require a different amount of time, hence each a different amount of funding. I am just looking for an approximate figure.

Perhaps this is a question to ask Trevor.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

@Moxee

Hemm depends on where developer lives, and skill of the developer, if he is going to work full time on this 7 houers / 5 days a week for 12 months or 24 months, its going to cost just that.

Who is paying for it anyway?

That should already be (sort of) factored into my question since all we really have anymore are bedroom coders. The days of professional coders seem to be long gone. Someone somewhere might have already come up with a generalized hourly figure. I am just asking if anyone on here has.

Anonymous. Only a preliminary and just wondering question.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Trevor pays for it and wants to refinance it by selling it as part of a software package (if I remember right)

First and last update in december 2012 says

Libre Office Status Update Thomas Frieden, the developer porting Libre Office to AmigaOS 4, has also has made excellent progress. Although Libre Office is planned as a long term project, Thomas has already ported approximate 75% of the code. Once this process is finished the next stage is to build the first binarys

Liberating Office : A1-X1000 style!

Thomas Frieden, the freelance software developer and core AmigaOS guru who is porting Libre Office to AmigaOS 4 recently sent me a progress update report. Although this is a long term project he is making excellent progress and has finally reached the VCL, the visual components library, which is basically the abstraction of the window system, widgets, user input etc.

According to Thomas, "this is the last "big" obstacle to be overcome. Once this works, it should be possible to get a first binary (which will most likely crash). " However, I was more interested in his attached side-note which read, "I had one component ("official" Unicode support library) which couldn't cross-compile correctly, so I built that on the X1000, configure and all. Worked quite well. The A1-X1000 is a dream Amiga, really, it's speed is great, and I really look forward to seeing it use all cores!" All I can say is, don't we all Thomas, don't we

Warp3D & Libre Office Update

Warp3D development was put on the back burner while Hans-Joerg, the Core AmigaOS 4 developer, concentrated on his main AmigaOS 4 commitments, but he is now devoting a little more time to completing the project. One major benefit of the Warp3D work is that, as posted on the official AmigaOS Blog, Gallium will benefit substantially from the experience gained with the hardware accelerated drivers for the Evergreen series 5xxx & 6xxx RadeonHD graphics cards. All I can say is bring it on! More good news on the LibreOffice front. The binary is now fully built and weighs in at a massive 400MB with an additional 120MB of shared objects! Thomas reports that's even bigger that the Firefox port. However, now the work really starts. This is a long term A-EON funded project so no promises on a potential completion date. Anyone who says "two more weeks" will be taken out and shot!
