@pavlor

As I live in Switzerland and we have by far the best chocolate in the world (I'm sorry belgium friends) I'll send you some chocolate anyway, no matter what.

Just send me your address (PM) and you'll have it next week.

I'm not kidding.

@Kronos

OK. Chocolate for Kronos!

@itix

Glad to see you had pleasant beer experience in our country! There are really bad Czech beer brands too, usually served to non-aware tourists (well, I was told even these aren´t that bad in comparison to beer standard in some other parts of the world ).

@Zylesea

I´m too young to remember these dark times (at least for chocolate lovers ). I was only 5 years old back in 1989. Iron curtain fell just in time to buy our first computer - C64.

@iggy

You will be certainly not disappointed - assuming you win my bet, which I don´t expect.

As of chocolate for myself... I like surprises.

@Birbo

Thanks! What a generous and tempting offer.

So, contestants in my bet are:
1. Kronos
2. itix
3. iggy

7 places left open (plenty of time until 2018...).

@Spectre660

I can be a 'little' thick skinned and it has just occured to me that in my furor to support my stance I have been far less than polite.

As such, I would like to offer Spectre660 the limited consolation an apology offers.

Your posts on Linux have been most informative.

If this board was primarily intended for Linux I would not be pushing the single point I keep mentioning.

The board was created by Paul Gentle's team at Varysis and they are extremely competant.
And A-eon's support of our remarkably small market has been invaluable.

So...I will try to be a bit more considetate in the future.

If not released this year with AO4, it might never be released ...

It thought this will be equal to "2018 or later"

If A-Eon sells the Tabor as a naked motherboard, the AmigaOne1222 might come later.

The 'AmigaOne' label is currently restricted to full rigged systems but i you have a Sam460 equipped system, it might be a match for the upcoming AmigaOne1222.

Final bet draft is in post 231.

Not released/cancelled = free beer.

While I liked the design of the hardware of the X1000 (and don' t know much about the X5000), this Tabor here seems like a pathetic blunder at least because of the choice of its cpu.

I wonder why PowerPC vendors are kit-bashing PowerPC ISA that breaks legacy software.
The cheap embedded AMD Jaguar didn't muck around with X86 ISA standards. At 28 nm process node, AMD Jaguar's area size is similar to ARM Cortex A15.

1. These SOCs are not made for 'legacy software'
2. The usage of proper PPC FPU might cost some money for licences.

Look to Freescale's Coldfire it is market as 68k follower but not binary compatible with the 68k.

This SOCs where never meant to be fully binary compatible, they are for an embedded market, you should be glad if they support all integer commands.

Glad? Coldfire and PowerPC's embedded markets are getting beaten by ARM SoCs.

68K mucks it's instruction set since 68010. Motorola/Freescale has zero respect for legacy software.

I thought negativeness about PPC is not welcome here ... ;)

Some SoCs from Freescale seemed to be popular in the automotive industry (because of the high numbers of can buses) and for network appliances (NAT and Routers), nothing suitable for desktops.

Freescale is ready for an architecture switch to ARM, if the demand for PPCs is going down finally.

Yes. There's no drivers for USB dongles so you'll need an Ethernet to Wifi bridge. It's all handled transparently to the OS but for peace of mind, the 2 cards listed below are known to work with OS4.

Netgear WNCE2001

TP-LINK TL-WR710N

Of course PPC is not dead.
Power 8 and its future sucessor Power9 are PPCs.

The focus for low end PPC is the embedded market though.

Ok that is sad, the wnce2001 is antique. And more expensive then usb to wifi adapters.
I have one and needed it to setup on my Windows machine to let it work on my Amigaone 500.

Sad? Its not the first time we had device support stagnate for awhile.

How many of us still use Radeon 9000 series cards?
