@ironfist

Who knows what is going in the background? Maybe it is even in the Hyperion's intrest to keep ownership of ExecSG with Friedens?

Got to admit, that hopefully those wanting to license OS4 with real hardware and intentions can do that without getting lost in the jungle.

You're really funny! Did you know that?
A Swedish saying is "You shouldn't throw stones in glashouses".
You may want to think about what that means in connection to this..

When you don't have the money to buy the source you often pay for the binary
alone. Then contract the authors for updates later (or from the start). Or buy it
when you have enough money later.

@Thread

To me it seems pretty simple.
Amiga Inc. has a possible binary buy back clause. Meaning they can buy back
OS4 in binary form and sell it the way the please. Only when OS4 is finished of
course. This may be one of the reasons OS4 is late (hardware is another).
Hyperion has never let go of the sources (I hope) and none of the contractors
doing work for OS4 either I suppose. But they have signed contracts letting Hyperion
and/or Amiga Inc sell OS4 with their work in binary form.

It's the same way MorphOS development works/worked. Each party owning their
own work. But signing contracts for the final work in binary form for each version
of the OS released. Not letting go of the sources.

nobody says this about
ID software
EA Entertainment
2K Games
Etc.....

if a software company cannot handle the coding alone they contract out work. this work is cheaper if they do not claim ownership to the source. if they want to continue the game with a different developer they have two options. buy the source or recreate the source. unless they are like id and only have to recreate the game feel and graphics.

I mean, any normal programmer employed by some company
works for that company and every line they code is owned by
the employer.

It depends on the terms of the contract. If some parties were not willing to consider the terms as they are in some contracts, then there may have been large holes in OS4 and thus it may have never been started. I don't know what terms are in place regarding code ownership for various people, not even myself, as I haven't seen that stuff. (I'm a degree removed from having participated in whatever contract negotiations happened with my project, and only know what the situation is between me and my direct employer for that)
