So what you say is that the users pay the port and not bbrv?
Well, this is probably most common way in "real world", as brotheris said. I'm not sure, but this is probably how Hyperion has done it with games when they converted them to ppc macs or classic amigas. Maybe it could work with OS4 too, since hey don't have to build everything from ground up anymore for Pegasos and other PPC machines etc. I think they have stated this already ie there is not that much work to be done to allow OS4 to run on Pegasos, since they are not that different machines.

Well, who pays for your 'free' mobile handset when you sign up for a 12 month contract. The user or the telco.
I remember (I think) when Genesi were 'donating' $50 to MOS for every PegII sold. If they factored in the same 'cost' for OS4 then the port would be covered within 400 unit sales. 400 sales is an easily achievable target within 6 months in these hardware challenged times. Even if the Italians and ACK come through the PegII would still have the biggest market share due to its reputation for quality and stability.

Sure, through sales. How do you view a business man, which pays some 50.000 out of his pocket and then sell hw with an OS that user pays and yet again all those money for OS sale goes to people that got 50.000 :))) Are you telling for real that some "dumb asshole" should just throw away 50.000EUR for someone elses convenice ? They might sell for Pegasos prioce + 100EUR, from which 50EUR go to Ainc and Hyperion for OS4 and next 50EUR for a port. You just need to sell 1000 Pegasos boards. Will they sell that much to this community ? I doubt it. To sell that many boards the price will need to be lower than + 100EUR.
