@wegster

Great too see this...What is about PCMICA network on OS4? Maybe CNET.device os4 native? or using 68k version?

@wegster

This is a silly question, but this is like essentially saying OS 4 classic will be available and is pre-announcing. Has the information presented (at AmiWest) and here been given on the authority of Amiga Inc. and Hyperion both or either that there will indeed be a classic release?

It would be nice to get verification that OS 4 "Classic" is really planned and this is not just someone's hack.. I know of many "pre-release" products that don't make it to release. It would be nice if we were to have a "vaporware" announcement if there was some sort of commitment by either organization to say "yes" we plan on having this available to the "classic" users. It would be like going to AmiWest and seeing OS4 running on the Mac mini, and having people get their hopes up..

@wegster

EDIT - removed part of post per Entilzhas' request.

Quote:
- A clean install is preffered. It can be installed/upgraded, but must be installed to a partition supporting long fielnames, so no classic FFS..SFS only.
Several fonts use long filenames, possibly others. AHI is also supported on Classics.

No, actually a clean install is mandatory. Trying to upgrade a 3.9 install is madness and should never be attempted. The first thing I will ever ask when someone has trouble whether he has installed on a clean partition, and if the reply is "no" I will just say "go and reinstall on a clean partition" and be done with it.

You can chose FFS or SFS, both are supplied on the CD as 68k file systems and both support long file names. The ROM FFS doesn't.

And in the Install instructions, 200 meg free space minimum is needed on the hard drive partition.

Will classic OS4 work with PFS3 filesystem also? What memory does the PCI cards use in A1200 Mediator if no graphics card memory is used? Does SB128 or any fast-ethernet card work on Mediator?

12. is there anything on a CPU level (if we consider that we have MMU and FPU on 68k) that would stop some of the more advanced OS4 features from working on 68k, IF OS4 were ver to be ported (re-ported) to 68k? Any chance?

A 68k version has been off the cards for 5 years that I can remember, since the "next" version of AmigaOS as announced, and expected, would be PPC only. People were upset then, and less are upset now. But, all that time ago, I never wanted to run an AmigaOS 4.0 on my A1020/030@40/AGA!! A new machine or else!

Quote:
15. If WinUAE gets a PPC cpu emulation option will it be "legal" to buy and run a copy of AmigaOS4 Classic on emulation?- unsure this is a question for Hyperion or existing laws, not classic OS4 specific.

What?! WinUAE will get PPC emulation before MacUAE gets native WarpUP PPC emulation? That's it, this will be the last straw. It's one thing with the PPC and it's big endian CPU with 32 registers not getting a 68K JIT, but not even being able to run PowerPC Amiga code natively is another. You can forget any kind of PowerPC Amiga software running native on a Mac now.

@wegster

Will OS4 on Classic Amiga's run more classic software than A1, since it can access the custom chips? Or do the custom chips act like just another video card?
