@Bobsonsirjonny

I'm more frustrated with my own lack of ability with certain programs. I think Hyperion have achieved quite a lot given the limited resources they have, compared to the amount they are taking in for their efforts.

I am not frustrated with OS4 at all. Why would I? Because it crashed sometimes? I think you are referring to the lack of software for OS4. I agree there. There is need for certain software. But when it comes to OS4 I am really happy with it. They have done a great job so far. Carry on.

@Bobsonsirjonny

I'm very happy with the current state of OS4 and the way things seem to be moving along behind the scene.

I wouldn't swear that it'll be done "soon" though (depends of course on how you chose to define soon), but it does appear to be closing in on the finish line, so one can only hope.

Though, as I said, I'm very happy with the version of OS4 I'm running right now. Another update would be sweet though (if the full release isn't really, really close, of course). But, you know, I'm sure things'll work out for the best in the end, soonish rather than never.

As for the lack of apps, well, I find myself firing up linux more and more since I got the Sil-card and linux started becoming useful on the A1, so I've got the best of both worlds in this tiny little box in front of me. I wouldn't mind using linux less and OS4 more though, but I'm not complaining. I'm plenty satisfied with my life as far as computing goes.

Nope. The current state that I'm using is very usable - in fact, my AmigaOne has completely replaced my A1200 system. It does everything that I did on my 1200, so that's all I can ask for.

Unfortunately, from time to time, it also mirrors the stability of my A1200 system, but I expect that's down to the current beta and hardware issues.

I'm very happy with it so far - it's been a while since I last fired up the A4000.

@Bobsonsirjonny

It would be very nice to swap all of my computing tasks over to Amiga, which I cannot do until browsing and office applications catch up, the OS is fine, and coming along nicely.

A laptop would be fantastic as I do work away from home quite a lot, and taking a full blown desktop setup everywhere is not the most convenient thing to do. It looks like it will be a while (if ever) before this happens, so maybe later this year I will start working on building a microA1 system into an LCD monitor, so at least there is one less box to cart around, add to this wireless KB, Mouse and networking, and you've got something a little more convenient, which I may consider taking with me once the apps catch up. Until then, I still end up relying on a Windows laptop.

As for waiting for all this to be done, no, not a problem, I would like to see it done, but I am not putting my life on hold waiting, when it's done, it's done.

I'm happy at the way it is now. I'm sure it'll be complete very soon.

@Bobsonsirjonny

I had to think about this one for a moment & after a short time it was clear. OS4, I am very happy with. Considering this is a Beta how can I be doing my everyday computing on it? How can I be surfing, e-mailing, playing games, building websites, recording & editing music files, paying bills, creating & processing cgi? Sure, I get the odd Reaper & need to reboot, but at least in most cases I can save my work before rather than watch it all fizzle away in a forced reboot. How can I be doing all this on an OS that is in a Beta state? Granted, all the above isn't being done with just the OS itself but there's some excellent work gone into it to make it all work together.

As a few others have already said, it only gets frustrating when you simply cannot do. For example, I have HAD to buy a PC so I can do file transfers through AIM, I can use Word & Excell but fortunately I can do this all through RDesktop so I can flick back to Amiga land in an instant... Oh, & that's all being done on the same Beta version of the OS.

Heh, Yep! I'm very happy even as things stand now.

FuZion.

I am pretty happy with the current state of AmigaOS4. I switched to it completely - sold my PC and buried the HD and the CDWriter from the A4000. The only thing I lack currently is DVD burning software for archival purposes, but then again I wasn't burning DVDs on my A4000 either.

A1 is my main machine. OS4 is impressive, i hope to have a good browser for it in the future

A1+OS4 are the biggest leap in Amiga World.

You are completely right.
But you must also ask yourself: "Is it something you want to happen? Do you want the Amiga to catch up with other systems?". If so: contribute. With whatever you can, contribute, with your skills or your money, contribute!
This is a wonderful challenge and this is great fun to see it progressing nicely.
Enjoy your Amiga experience into the future too.

God, what kind of question is that? I would rather more be very frustrated using Windows on a PC, than using AmigaOS 4 on an AmigaOne, whatever the limitations should be....

I consider such Amiga-questions to be totally irrelevant and unneccessary. There is really no reason to be frustrated about the Amiga. Be frustrated on the PC-platform and the Microsoft-monopholy. That's a reason enough...

@Helgis

My frustartion isnt so much to do with OS4 but the lack of software for it. Also workbench for a desktop environment is poor, and all my cli knowlege has gone.

It's annoying the hell out of me that I have to jump thourgh hoops - and write scripts to just do simple things.

I agree on the lack of software and the limitations of features at the present, but i think OS4 has come a very long way since the state of Classic AmigaOS...

I love my A1 and for that matter I loved my A3000 till it died. For my purposes I could have gone on with the A3000 and 3.1. My baud rate here in the backwoods matched my o40 processor. I am very disappointed with the Linux side. Upgrading is far beyond my abilities. I only need it for foxfire to load games for my son. As it is now it is useless except for times I have trouble on the Amiga side and need to get help online. This has only happen twice.

Hyperion has done a great job and I am expecting even better for the future.

Being part of this whole Amiga experience is like being part of a science fiction novel. It is like living in an altered reality. In that so many ordinary citizens are completely messmorized by MicroSloth I feel like an Alien in my own land.

Think about this thing. Why do so many PC-users now decide to leave Windows in favour of Linux? There are several reasons for that. I'll try to address them..

1. Linux is much safer, easier, cheaper and more stable to use than Windows.
2. Most Linux-software are GPL (freeware), compared to that for Windows.
3. Linux is not dependent on Microsoft-monopholy as Windows seems to be.
4. Several LinuxPPC-programs are in port for AmigaOS 4...

Having AmigaOne and the possibility to run a dual-OS system as LinuxPPC and AmigaOS 4, you get the most powerful, flexible computer platform in the whole universe! Most programs that are to be/have been ported to AmigaOS 4, actually come from Linux! Think about that...

Windows is no longer safe and flexible to use. Windows has shown its' age, and even that many PC-users don't want to accept it: Windows is a dying platform. Linux has become the alternative OS, and AmigaOS is again going to be the number one choice for most of us....no doubt
