| Voted for Waitig for the release ie When it's done (c)
I have to get an µA1 first with OS4. Hopefully, this will happen soon with the release of OS4 final later this year. (saving money...) Hope we'll get enough pre-order.

| Just placed mine and voted -- 34 yes so far. Well, that's more than halfway there, even without counting those that don't come here.
Looking good!
Best regards,
Niels

| Hi all,
You're not just buying one program, in the future, an upgrade should be enhanced, cheaper, AND more optimized.
This is an investment in Amiga's future.
You bought the motherboard, now buy its' way to being useful for something.
When Papyrus' available, it will encourage more people to buy microAmigaOnes or whatever is available later, to be sold.
It's a very small amount when you put this into the equation. |

| I've seen a number of posts by people having trouble with TurboPrint with OS4. If it's going to include an OS4 version of TurboPrint that uses the OS4 version of GhostScript I would consider it. However, if it's going to use OS3 TurboPrint with an outdated version of GhostScriipt then count me out. I don't think is makes much sense to replace my perfectly working OS3 programs (FinalWriter, TurboCalc, SuperBase) with an OS4 program that needs OS3 programs to print.
I'm looking for programs that are 100% PPC native.

| Okay, I preordered the OS4 Version (in spite of don't being able to order AOS4 right now). But u get the 68k-Version "for free". So no reason why not to preorder Papyrus AOS4.
Until now there are only 36 preorder. Far away from "60" .. Is the Amiga market becoming really so tiny? I can't believe that someone don't want Papyrus for AOS4. It is a great programm!
Go on and preorder Papyrus AOS4!

I believe there are several thngs to take into consideration:
1) Not all AmigaOS4 users reside here at AmigaWorld (And those that do, don't all particpate in polls), for instance there are large groups of Amiga users who only or mainly visit Polish, French or German languaged websites.
2) Some people may be waiting for clarifications from Titan on important issues or are still waiting for Titan to sign the required (for the free loan systems) agreement with Hyperion.
3) Personally I always advocate a test before you buy approach and considering I haven't been able to try Papyrus myself, I believe some people would like to wait and see as well.
I haven't voted yet myself. I think I will decide within a week or two, depending on the clarifications on questions provided by Titan, else I plan to donate the cash elsewhere and wait for the finished product to test at an Amiga event. Last edited by MikeB on 19-Jun-2005 at 12:37 PM.

Do we know for absolute certain that ROM Logicware (the authors), are going to be providing an English Language version of the latest release, or is this something Titan is/will be able to provide?
I ask this because I went to their site and downloaded the English demo version for Windows XP, and it's version 8.x from four years ago and it's the latest release in English it appear. On the German side of the house they are up to v10.x. I am not so excited about this. They do promise though that the English version 10 is coming soon...but it looks like the skipped v9.
English localization updates appear to be a non-priority (if not a hassle) for them.
Here is what it says the their site (no mention of Amiga either)....
Version X will soon be released in English! ...for all supported operating systems, including:
Windows (95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP) Macintosh (Mac OS X, Version 10.2 or higher) OS/2 Warp (Version 3, 4) or ECS TOS / MagiC The English version of Papyrus X is identical (in features) to the German version, and the translation has been newly reviewed and updated (by native language speakers). A revised translation of the R.O.M.-logicware-homepage is also in progress, we appreciate your patience.
Although it has been a while since our last English-language release, we have not been idle. Papyrus has undergone constant development (in German) since our last major English-language release, and this development will continue, both for the English and the German version(s).
You can find the Papyrus OFFICE English Demo Version here.
The price lists for Papyrus in English are being updated (for both dollars and euros). Until the new page appears, please contact us (via e-mail) before ordering

to 1) and 3): The problem is that you never can "test" Papyrus on an Amiga event if there aren't "60" preorders. (I admit that it is always a risk to buy amiga software. U never have the quality as on other plattforms - Pagestream is an exception. I bought a lot of Software that actually is crap because of unstable behaviour. Nevertheless if not enough people buy that software it becomes never stable. It's a pity but the amiga market its nearly dead. So u dont have a choice, have u? - the only thing i see is to leave the amiga platform and let it die. But I dont want that ) Titan responses to my email today that the actual preorder number is far away from "60". So I think "36" could be the real number of preorders.
P.S. Oh, at least on Atari and MacOS Papyrus is great and stable! I could test it there ..
to 2): okay. I didn't know that there are "problems". But preordering doesnt harm you. U only have to pay for Papyrus AOS4 if the agreement has been signed and there are 60 preorders ..
greetings
nexus.

I recognize that it's a chicken and an egg thing, but I believe Titan must know that if they do a quality port which receives a positive review in magazines like Total Amiga magazine they will sell a multitude compared to their required minimal sales figures (especially when AmigaOS4,0 Final gets out). But I could test Papyrus running on MorphOS at an Amiga event, I have no reason to believe an AmigaOS4 version would perform significantly better or worse.
Next to 5 Swedish Amiga usergroups, also one Pegasos usergroup (PUGS) will attend the AmiGBG event which is planned for next month.Last edited by MikeB on 19-Jun-2005 at 01:07 PM.

I've ordered. Actually, I ordered 3 copies because I'm an idiot by mistake. However, if we're a couple of pre-orders short I'll re-order the other 2 again on purpose

| Here's number39 on the pre-order list. If some of the 'order when it comes out' lot who do have A1's would also put their money where their mouths are, we would have passed the minimum order requirement by now.
It's the only to get decent software on our platform, guys!
Oops, typo!

All I can say is that I made a pre-order for my A1200/030 on the basis that someone was at least looking and trying to make AMIGA compatible software.
I also forgot about that pre-order, none the les I have that copy and gues what my A1200 doesn't have the specs to run it, that is not michael's fault but mine and I don't give a damn. If it helped keep him in the busines despite all the red and blue crap and we all end up with something whilst we await better then my money was well spent. I have also received a coupl of updates and he has aske feedback on perfomance under AOS4 (via 68k emu). Give the bloke a break, he is here and now, OpenOffice is some way off as the developers keep saying, try and support current developers whilst waiting.

| @mbilla et al
Same goes for me but I have offered to pay for an update, ok some may not be able to afford that but that is my way of paying back.
Michael got caught up in the whole Blue vs Red thing but as acustomer of his I can say trust the bloke. He is doing something few are trying to make a bob in the Amiga market. So far he has been very honest and open with me and more than interested in AOS4 for making a version.
OpenOffice would be brilliant but a long way off, support what is her and just maybe things will progress from there. Showing a potential developer that only 30+ are interested in a product is pretty lame for the platform.
cheers

| Is this 'Papyrus pre-order deal' also made public outside Amigaworld.net ?
Like: AmigaDE, Amiga.org, maybe even ANN and other sites like French, Italian and whatever more...
The more Amiga users actualy KNOW about this, the better !
Cheers,

This announcement did make it onto the amiga-news.de website. If this didn't make the news at some websites, you may want to consider submitting a news item there which links to Micheal's announcement (and added poll) here at AW. |
