DigitalDisaster then !!

Yeah, that's the one I think he remembers. The "AmigaFive" project was from DigitalDisaster. It was a plan to bring the Momentum PPC970 board to market by the community and get the board in the hands of Hyperion for porting OS4.

@Hondo_DK

Who really cares when there are so many issues still outstanding. Mind you hardware is not everything. We need good software support and so far besides Linux I don't see it on A1. OS 4 made great move forward but we still lack things.
So you can keep releases new hardware all you want but without support with modern OS requirements (yes, DVD player, TV out, drivers for Radeon 9200, 7000 and others, cd/dvd burner in OS4) it's not enough to get it off the ground.
Look at Mac 0S features, even Windows XP, and we can still see a long way to go. Future does look more promising though.

I'm afraid that the Amiga5 project died a while ago - see this topic.

You be quiet and get back to Amizilla!!
[/sound of whip cracking]

Or not.

EDIT - Err, back on topic: I'm hoping it's the ACK boards. I got an A1200 tower that's itching for a PPC version of the Video Toaster software.

In a matter of weeks we will be presented with a new HW company offering motherboards for AOS4, which leads me to these questions...

1. Is Eyetech gone as a supplier, after the next batch of mobos they recently talked about?

No. I wish people would think before they start spreading this sort of nonsense. Please ask youself who owns the right to market AmigaOnes worldwide.

2. Who is the new company???

What about Adam Kowalczyk and the ACK adapter (not strictly a mobo)? There are no other legal mobos in development outside of MAI.

3. Why on earth does a new company stick to old specs as in theA1 - still having only SD-RAM, 800 MHZ CPU, and so on. Why not use the great momentum and throw out a modern specced board with DDR RAM, faster processor, etc.???? -

Why, even after years of careful explanation, do people still equate GHz with power and forget all about calculation?
As for DDR RAM, the Articia P is now at prototype stage.

With latent screws and Unique Applicator.

It might be me. But I'm not saying.
Advice: Be happy about this development. But don't get so excited that you are disappointed by what is delivered (many Amigans seen to have this tendency). Evolution not revolution.

Its not me anyway, all I can say is that any new A1 hardware would be welcome.
Dual 1.8ghz g4, ddr2, agp8x etc would be nice but we can all dream!

@Hondo_DK

Well for me, the hardware is not the only thing that must be good. This company must be strong enough to ensure that this new hardware can be developed in the future.
As an example, this company must have the following:
- enough money/time to write drivers for this board
- enough money to build a first batch
- enough know-how to sell the boards not only in the Amiga market but elsewhere too
- enough money/time to provide not only OS4, but at least a Linux distro too
- enough money to buy a licence from Amiga Inc

and probably other ideas I don't see right now.

I agree you need good software to suceed, but without stable hardware support I don't intend to replace my ancient Amiga setup.

@amigacooke

My Amiga One XE is stable enough. There are no issues.
I wish eyetech would make more of those or create a slightly improved version of it. The micro A1s are pure nonsense imho, but then again its for a different market. Rumour says somethng will be up at end of Oct, similar to XEs...
